Solved Installing SSD, advice needed on complicated partitioning.

After you transfer the OS from the HD to the SSD make sure the SSD is aligned correctly.
Depending on how you transfer the OS it could copy the HD alignment to the SSD (incorrectly).

When you install XP as a dual-boot you plan to install XP, all XP programs, games, and data on the spinner ?
You won't have XP installed on the SSD, is that your plan ?
If so, that means your XP OS will be running from a WS Green HD (Disk 0), right ?

I hope not because that would be murder for the SSD. XP has no Trim support.

Yes, the plan would be to use that test space on the WD Green drive for both XP and whichever game was given me troubles on W7 at the moment. But that's a ways down the road right now.

I'm not 100% sure if that will work in a dual boot situation, but some of tutorials here led me to believe so.

If you make an XP install, disconnect the SSD and make an independent installation on the HDD. That is a much cleaner approach. You can then switch between XP and W7 with the BIOS boot priority.

Got it installed, OS cloned, and no drive letter problems on restart. No issues in the past couple of days, so I'm going to mark this as solved.

Little late getting back in the thread, not sure if you'd read, but just wanted to give you the tip to set up the SSD in your BIOS to run in AHCI, instead of what could be a default IDE. The speed difference is significant.
