Okay for some retarted reason the windows update window wont install .net framework 4 or the security updates for it.

I manage to do a stand alone install for .net framework 4 but it wont let me get the updates for the security through the windows update and keeps coming up with this error:

.Netframework security patch error:
ngen.exe entry point not found. the procedure entry point CLRCreateInstance could not be locate in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll but all other updates
are fine..

I also have this same problem with microsoft fixit tool..

anyone got any solutions how to fix this nagging problem.

Have you had a chance to review this Microsoft knowledge base article?

Update for the .NET Framework 4

It also seems to be a requirement to have all previous .NET Framework versions installed as they work side by side (some parts of .NET 4 may need parts of .NET 1, 2, 3, 3.5 to work correctly.)

In doing some more research on your problem, I came across this Microsoft forum Q & A.

For Windows 7, .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 is shipped with it as one of OS component.
For .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1, it includes .NET 2.0 with SP2 and .NET 3.0 with SP2 as prerequisite.
This means, (Windows 7) has the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 plus a few post 3.5 SP1 bug fixes on Windows 7. They are OS components. .NET 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 can be added or removed via the Programs and Features control panel.

Source: Cannot install .net 3.5 on windows 7

Since Windows 7 is supposed to have .NET Framework 3.5 included as part of the system files, you may want to run a System File Checker scan. SFC scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect, corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

If SFC finds any problems, run the scan 3 more times as per the note in Option Two, Step 4. Perhaps SFC will fix a problem file and then allow you to install .NET Framework 4.

I have the same problem as the op, when ive tried to run sfc as administrator command prompt i get this error

Windows resource protection could not start the repair service.

I have yet to try a full repair install.

I also have the same problem. When I finally broke down after a week since this Windows Update and did a repair install, it made it to 99% ond then failed and rolled back, tried twice.

I think the Windows Update frigged Net Framework. It shows up in msconfig as Manufacturer Unknown and on all my other PCs here, exact same models, software updates etc, it shows Microsoft.
