Well I am just installing updates and installing programs. Tbh, the drive is no quicker then my HDD on start up.

Well so far at least... need to get hdtune

I clicked restart and this is how the timer went:

12 seconds - it had finished logging out when I clicked restart
19 seconds - I could see the Gigabyte logo, (POST etc)
30 seconds - Windows logo
1:30 - Desktop
A few seconds later msn and skype had loaded

I uncheck everything in msconfig>Startup except AV (MS Security Essentials or Avast are best) and gadgets. The rest are freeloaders on your startup time, RAM/CPU and can spy on you. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1401-startup-programs-change.html

That is too long for Startup in any case so check the logs and normal methods for troubleshooting Win7: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...-lags-every-couple-seconds-2.html#post1131640

If no traction there then here is the way the pro's trace startup slowness/hangs: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/140247-trace-windows-7-bootshutdownhibernatestandbyresume-issues/

Ok well I unticked everything. There isn't MSE though only a Microsoft Security Client?

Also nothing in my AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

I haven't yet applied the MSConfig

What are the times with everything except MS security unchecked?

Try unplugging all other HD's to test it.

Then check your logs, esp Performance which logs hangs and delays.

Unchecked - same time.. about a minute from logo to desktop.

Will unplug my HDD.... god I swear nothing just works for me -.-

Edit: with the other hdd unplugged it took just as long. Though my user profiles are on that HDD so.. It said preparing your desktop, and it was past a minute so I just restarted.

Grrrrr

Well unplugging the hdd was terrible idea because now when I get to the desktop it says

Windows/system32..........systemprofile/desktop refers to a location that is unaviable bla. Because my user profiles are set to the hdd I pulled out

Now I'm stuck.

I guess I have to reinstall windows.. I hate this blimmin computer. And next time I'm not putting the user profiles on the other hdd

Oh my... I boot from disk but it doesn't even work so it just boots into windows

Edit: I can boot from disk if I change 'onboard sata controller' from AHCI to IDE which is default. Though everyone says to have it on AHCI

Power down the machine to disconnect all but the HDD with Windows on and set that HDD as second to boot in the BIOS after the Optical Disk Drive and run the startup repairs again, if the Windows 7 partition is not marked as "Active" that needs done also, see Option Two in this same tutorial at the link below.

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

To use diskpart to check if a partition is active ...

diskpart <enter>
list disk
select disk #

select partition #

Well I managed to reinstall the OS. Only got the ssd plugged in. I did one windows restarts and speed was horrible (not tried any tweaks but those aren't going to reduce startup by 45seconds. Should I do the above post steps still?

Edit: I probably won't be able to get to the 'press any key to boot from cd' because I'm on this AHCI. Unless I change it back to IDE it probably won't work.

Edit2: well with bios booting DVD first then SSD it still booted ssd. So I restarted and clicked f12 to boot from dvd. Its now doing a startup repair, not had the list of options yet though and it's taking forever

Edit3: Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically. I clicked advanced and am now at the list of things such as to run a cmd

Edit4: ok I marked it as active as it wasn't

Edit5: I'm now getting a black screen with writing on when I try to boost from DVD.
Windows failed to start. To fix:
1) insert DVD and restart pc
2) choose your language and click next.
3) click repair your pc

File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xC000000f
Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot config data.

Well this just keeps getting worse. If I restart I just get taken back here ..

Oli, unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Set SSD to boot first, boot the Install DVD using F12 Boot menu key, select Custom install, delete all partitions, Create new one, format, click Next.

What happens?

All what's plugged in is, mouse, kb (USB). SSD, Monitor of course

No other Hdds.

When I click F12 then CDRom it goes to the error screen. (the one in edit5, a couple of posts above)

The DVD is not booting. Is this a known-good DVD which has installed before? How about the DVD drive?

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn it yourself? Try burning another at 4x speed with ImgBurn. Or write to flash stick using UltraISO trial version: on File tab Open ISO, on Bootable tab Write DIsk Image, Format, Write. Boot flash stick from F12 Menu.

Boot from CD - How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD - Boot to CD

Used the disk around 10 times, bought from PC world. DVD drive, never had problems with it... Plus it was working earlier because I have installed windows twice today

I could try the 32bit disk? Or go back to IDE and not AHCI

Then booted in the order: hdd, DVD. Got the error.
f12: DVD. Wool success. It asked me to press a button to boot

I will now try post 34

Edit: well it's about to start expanding windows files... But obviously it only let it boot from disk because it would've got changed back to IDE from AHCI. If it works no doubt it will just be as slow as it was in the first place

Forum is down as well for a few hours now on my home network and my friends who doesn't life nearby :s though its working on my mobile MiFi and iPad

Thanks once again

We have startup!!!
