Installing Windows 7 on newer hardware.. A must or downgrade PC

Hello,
I decided to upgrade to a new computer. A Dell XPS 8930 with I9 processor that came equipped with Windows 10.

The problem is, I have a environmental control that uses a serial port (yes, it's old).

In Windows 10, I have had nothing but difficulties with my computer freezing and then having to hit control, alt and delete then choose cancel.

The computer works for an hour or 2, then freezes again. I have tried 2 PCI serial port cards, 2 serial to USB connectors. Both different manufacturers and spoken was support on both.

I've gotten touch with Dell and they were not able to help with the issue (paid service).

So I'd like to go back to using Windows 7 on my newer computer. But it doesn't look like it's possible or difficult to say the least..

If I cannot get Windows 7 installed on the newer computer, I'll probably have to downgrade to an older system so stability would not be an issue.

I'd also be willing to pay someone if they're able to assist me with Windows 7 on the newer PC.

Thanks for listening and any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have made something Update your Win 7 installation media

That should work on your equipment, but you will need a win7 license.

Or you can "downgrade" your hardware. Something like dell t3620 works fine with win 7 and comes with license.

What is your processor? Are you using Legacy or UEFI Boot?

New hardware is designed to run with Win 10 and Win 10 is designed to run on new hardware.
In some cases, you can install win 7 on new hardware, but you have to add some drivers (like SATA, USB3.x, NVMe) to Win 7 installation drive.
SIW2 made a script to add those drivers to the Win 7 installation drive.

To start, you must have a Win 7 license and key. Do you have one?

Okay update: I got Windows 7 installed with the media disc you provided. No freezing at all over the last day or so.

This has been a lifesaver.. One of the best things that's happened in quite some time. As Windows 10 would not work. If I did not find a solution I would have to sell new PC and buy an older Windows 7 machine

You should have a donation link. As I like to contribute to your hard work, I'm sure others would as well. You may possibly want to sell this on eBay.

Perhaps not so much for the money but I'm sure there are many other people that would like to continue to use Windows 7.

Lots of people upgrade to Windows 10 for security reasons. Well, I'm not sure if it's been posted before or not but there is 0patch.com and looks like they provide Windows 7 micro patches.

So I bought a one-year subscription for $25. With that said thanks for your time on the project. Let me know if I can donate in any way

Note to Staff: 0patch.com could be a possible partner for you. It would make sense if people are able to get updates, why switch to Windows 10?

"...Note to Staff: 0patch.com could be a possible partner for you. It would make sense if people are able to get updates, why switch to Windows 10?..." My W7 also uses the pay-for 0patch. However, even though I want to continue using W7, there are numerous advantages to having W10. Great video thingies - specially if one's computer has touchscreen.

As a very OLD tech, I can see only one reason for using Win-10 as opposed to Win-7, and that is for the very advanced Drivers Pack that comes with Win-10.

For me Win-7 is a piece of cake, because I still have my drivers disks for my Gigabyte motherboard, my NVIDIA video card and my Epson Printer.

On my five year old system, with a Gigabyte motherboard, I can install any version of Windows 10 and it will install all the drivers for my Video, Sound, and LAN, even my Epson Printer and I don't have to put in any drivers disks, to be up and running.
The One Big Negative is that Win-10 will not run Window Mail, no matter what I do to try to tweak it. And, for me, that's one HUGE Negative, because Windows Mail is my choice for a default email handler.

That one thing, is what keeps me running Windows 7.*
* However, Windows 8.1 WILL run Windows Mail and it has just about as good a drivers package as Win-10. But we see very few people, these days, talking about Windows 8.1, at all. ???

Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies.

TM
