Installing Windows 7 Without Aministrator.

As I am unable to find any information as to how to delete/remove “Administrator” from my PC, all that I have been able to do is run “cmd as Administrator,” then entering “net user administrator /active:no.” However, this makes absolutely no difference.

When I built my own PC back in 2013 with some assistance from a tech guy at Tiger Direct (no longer in business), he was able to load/install my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit without any Administrator at all and my PC was working fine until I screwed-up and removed something via “regedit” that I should have researched the meaning/use of first, I had to take my PC in for repair.

I have now had my PC to two different tech shops, and both have told me that my Windows 7 OPS could “only be installed with Administrator function.” When I explained to the last young man how my PC got built and had the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed without any Administrator whatsoever, he replied that he would like to meet the tech assistant I had, but I had to tell him that the company went out of business.

I would once again like a clear and informative answer to my dilemma: Is it possible to install my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit without any Administrator requirements?

Welcome to the forum. You can't have a system without administrative or you couldn't install anything and do other task. It's possible that permission was altered so there seems to be no administrative. What. Is the point of this?

At the very least, the built-in "administrator" account is always present and cannot be removed by any means, so no, it's not possible to run without any administrator at all. You can very well ignore it for as long as you don't need admin access, but it'll be there still.

Besides, some tasks can only be performed by admin accounts, so they're a must for system mainteinance. The default account created by installing Windows is also administrator, and is what's most often is used in the end.

I get the feeling that the guy at Tiger Direct was blowing smoke up your xxxx. People like him might be one reason why the company is no longer in business. I did a lot of business with them in years past and they sure had some dummies working in their store. (in Altamont Springs, FL)



I've installed one version of Windows or another, several hundreds of times, and if I do the install, then "I'M" the Administrator. What else could I possibly be? That's just the way Windows works. Thank you MS!


If, for some ??? reason, you want to run your PC as a NON-Administrator, then create a new account for yourself without Administrator Privileges. (Guest) That may make you happy, but it makes no sense at all to me.

For another thing, I have software entitled “Weather Watcher Live” that I have comfortably used for years (until my inadvertent PC damage) which used to load upon “Start-Up” quite nicely and display the current temperature in the lower right corner of the taskbar.

What your Stupo-Tech may have done is simply renamed the administrator account to your User Name and let you run your system in the totally unsafe way which was the default in XP

This of course a Bad idea in this age of malware - Malware takes the access abilities of the user it acts as, so in this case would have total access to all systems.

The modern way to work is to have a standard user and an Administrator account - this in Windows 7 and above is actually a single user account that is a standard user by default and when required is automatically elevated to an admin account Using User Account Control. This is the method that is strongly recommend that you follow, but it is in the end your choice.

Unfortunately some old programs were written in the days of XP where everyone ran as an administrator (except the professionals), and they require Admin rights due to bad programming practice - It is sometimes possible to manually reset the file access properties of certain files to get apps such as your weather app to run but this is difficult due to the modular way of Windows so it's better to find a modern replacement

Admittedly, I don't understand much of what you're saying, but let me address just one thing...
SLEEP: Why? What do you think you're saving? Since the very day that MS invented that feature, it's not been all it was cut out to be. A high percentage of complaints posted on the internet over the past years, have dealt with either Sleep or Hibernate.
It's always been my job as a computer tech to fix or eliminate problems for my customers. When setting up a new PC for one of my customers, I've always disabled Hibernate and DE-Selected Sleep.

One of my favorite sayings is, "Minus crud is cool".

So if Sleep is bugging you, Don't Use It! In power management when it comes to "Sleep" just click "NEVER". Problem solved.


Like many Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic devices, they should be shut OFF when not in use. My own computers are ON when I'm using them, and OFF when I'm not. Nothing could be simpler.
