Hi friends,

I have a compaq c772 laptop, and it's internal dvd writer is damaged. I have bought a new asus external DVD-RW, but when i tried to boot from the external dvd-rw, it did not boot.

on start i pressed f9 and select the asus cd-rom to boot, but after spining the disc for a while it is booting the installed version from harddisk.

Then, what is the exact procedure to boot from external DVD-ROM, or is it not possible?

Should be. What are you trying to boot?

If it's Win7 DVD, where did you get it? Have you booted to install from it successfully before?

I have installed it successfully before, from the internal DVD drive.

It is windows 7 system repair disc. I often use it to repair from a previously created system image on an external hard disc.

But now this disc is not booting from external DVD drive.

What option in BIOS are you using to boot External DVD-Rom?

I pressed F9 on start up, it shows "select boot menu", under this tab
ATAPI TSST ..... CDROM (internal dvd drive)
samsung HDD
ASUS ..... CDROM (external dvd drive)

I selected third one,

now it gave option , " press any key to boot from cd or dvd "
i pressed enter key

a blank screen appear and remain blank. :( :( :(

Check in BIOS to see if there are any other USB options to unable.

But if you are being prompted as stated then it should boot unless the DVD or ISO are bad.

Where did you get WIn7? If you burned it yourself, try another DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify.
