installing windows on 2 drives on laptop

purchased an old lenovo t420 laptop. there is a serial in the battery compartment. I have win7 installed on the HDD and it works fine. but id like to install win7 on an ssd.

the laptop is not connected to the internet. and wont be. the hdd is for specific work on it and the ssd for something else. I swap according to my needs. so I installed win7 on the ssd and tried calling in to authorize the serial and it was rejected. it was confirmed on the HDD but I cant do this on the SSD

is there a reason why? what did I do wrong?

Did you install Pro edition? If you installed a lower edition by accident, you could use anytime upgrade to change it to Pro, then activate after it has upgraded.

why didnt you just migrate the os from the hd to the ssd?

ssd manufacturers often have tools you can d/l to do it. The samsung one is apparently good. Or other free programs such as diskgenius have os migration feature.

I wanted a clean install. no need. they are 2 seperate drives for my specific reasons.
says windows pro oa. I didnt install anything by accident. on both are installed what the serial is for. win 7 pro oa.
I am not trying to move from HDD to SSD. im trying to have the os be on 2 drives and swap according to my needs. there is a reason why I need 2. its for my personal reasons why.

this is incorrect. you can call through phone center to activate windows. ive done it for the longest time. ive never done it through internet. I meant activate, not authorise.

Instead of using 2 different drives, why don't you use a single drive but create 2 different user accounts? Use each account for it's own specific task.

but this isnt the issue. im wondering why I cant activate my ssd but hdd is activated.

backup the activation with dism++ from the hd and restore it to the ssd.

im still curious why I cant activate my 2nd drive. I apologize but im a pro privacy advocate and very weary of any program unless I must use it. ill find any work around if I can. this is a bug in my head. again, I apologize.

any chance you can run this MS tool from here
Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions

The HDD validation is likely using the built-in default option ie self validation -- interenet connection is not required
The SSD if its using the sticker product key it will need to contact the MS server
(validation checks are performed at start-up and monthly)

if you run the tool on the SSD it will come back with a specific error code ..... cant remember off hand but its a combination of 7's and E's, if not connected to the internet
