Intel i3 330M 2.3MHz Cores Issues

Has anyone experienced this result of a CPU test:

Misconfigured CPU. Enable all CPU cores in the system BIOS.

BIOS and all drivers are up to date on this Lenovo T410i laptop using Windows7 Pro 32 w/4GB RAM.

I'll take a stab...

One idea:
type winlogo+run
msconfig
boot
select the maximum number of cores.

Second idea:
enable cores from bios

What utility are you running?

I've tried the BIOS route to no avail. It recognizes 2 cores.

Lenovo's ThinkVantage utility knows there are 2 cores but instructs me to enable all (both?) cores in the BIOS.

I've tried Windows msconfig. It only offers 1 cpu. (No mention of cores.) No more than1.

Just for the heck of it, flash your bios to version 1.32. September 2010.

Flashing the BIOS to 1.32 was done several days ago, thanks.

Is it all stock? You have haven't changed RAM or anything?

I did install 2GB of the appropriate RAM in the slot available making a total of 4GB (about 3GB available to system)

I've been using Lenovo's ThinkVantage utility aka PC Doctor. I am unaware of another utility for this issue but I'd like to hear your suggestion.

Just a stab in the dark here. Did the problem begin before or after flashing the BIOS?

Trouble was evident before and after flashing the BIOS.

This all began when, in response to the s-l-o-w performance since getting this refurb, Lenovo first recommended a full system test by their installed ThinkVantage utility. The CPU test returned the "enable all CPU cores in the BIOS" message. The BIOS sees 2 cores but only 1 is/can be enabled.

I wonder if the CPU might be faulty. I'd wait on a second opinion before jumping to that conclusion though. Hopefully someone that knows a little more about hardware than I do will be by shortly.

Have you tried removing the RAM and trying it again?
