The device cannot start. Error 10.

I have installed the drivers various times and the controller will not work.

I have an MSI Z77 GD55

It is a brand new build and it will not pick up the USB 3 controller. Everything else is fine.

Do you have the device code for the controller (see the hardware device info for the device in Device Manager)? It will have a VEN and DEV number.
Intel's vender number is 8086.

Have you installed the Intel Chipset drivers and the Intel Management Engine drivers?

Certainly have....

I downloaded all of the latest MSI ones and installed them.

Is there a specific order to it?
USB first?

Yeah I have tried that one.

Is it worth reinstalling Windows for a 3rd time...
And doing the USB driver first?

You can go to the device manager and delete/uninstall the driver.
Then try to install it with the last link I gave.

Same result... I trouble shoot the error and Windows tries to reinstall the drivers but fails and cannot "fix" it.

Well, the last step involves manually installing the driver.

Download the MSI USB Driver.
Unzip it.

  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Device Manager
  3. Find the device that you are trying to install a driver for.
  4. Right Click
  5. Update Driver Software
  6. Browse my computer for driver software
  7. Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Have Disk
  9. Browse for the .inf driver file. Open and Next.
  10. The driver will be installed.
The .inf driver file is found by looking in the following folders of the MSI unzipped folder "intel_usb3_mb".
Drivers > Win7 > x64
In step 9, you have to navigate to the x64 folder to find the .inf driver file.

If you don't have success, you can try the same procedure with the Intel drivers from the Intel site.

Same error code 10 for both sets of drivers...Cannot start.
Really odd....

I mean, I know it is picking up the hub as when I plug in my printer it pops up with the error, so it knows it is there...

You have to uninstall the driver in your standardsoftware folder not in hardware devices. The Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller driver is known broken. If you want to use external devices you have to uninstall them and wait for intel to fix it.

When you uninstall it all ports work with printers etc. but you lose USB 3.0 speed.

And i repeat dont uninstall it in your device manager that will cause bugging some other stuff maybe. You have to uninstall it in your standardsoftware folder in your windows systemtools. As of yet intel doesnt know about this HM77 Panther Point incompatibility but im sure someday they will get to know :(.

Glad i could help.

I wish I knew this a week ago... I sent my motherboard back and wont get a replacement and have lost £120....
Hm.

The thing is, the devices were not running AT ALL regardless of 3.0 or 2.0 speeds.

Where is your source about Intel not having a fix as I contacted them and they did not mention this.
