Intel SSD X25-M G2

Running W7 on this disk since a week. Tried to install the Intel SSD Toolbox. As I have the nVidia 680i chipset, I cannot run automatic TRIM but need to run manual with toolbox. The toolbox says "Raid not supported" for my SSD yet it isn't in my Raid array. Suggestions?:sarc:

This is getting annoying....
I moved my SSD to SATA port 0. Then made a fresh install of W7 onto the SSD. Next reconnceted my RAID disks onto SATA 1 and 2. SSD first disk in boot order. Reinstalled the Intel toolbox. yet my bootrecord now is on my SSD, I still get "RAID not Supported" in the toolbox.



What do I do now??

It appears it will not work with my motherboard.


I believe I have two options: either destroy may Raid array and restore its full PC-backup on one of the two disks, and hope it works, or buy a PCI card to run the SSD on that one (and hope it works).

Any suggestions here or any idea for another solution?

No more worries

Today the SSD died.
Yesterday it worked just fine, but today when I logged into Vista (on the Raid array), it took forever and started to a black screen for a minute. Then the graphics driver loaded and it worked OK. One parity error per second in event viewer was a bit scary. No errors in Device Manager but Disk Management did not show anything at all but a blank screen. Clicking the SSD in Explorer gave me a freeze and explorer had to be restarted. Trying to generate a Systems Health Report gave me an error. Situation the same regardless if I started Vista from SSD or Raid array (F8).

Starting W7 gave BSOD. Could not read the code as it restarted. Tried running startup repair both from computer and from W7 disk. It allowed me to pick my language and then to choose the repair option but then froze. No OS was detected.

Removed my SSD and now Vista works fine again.

Any suggestions for next step?
Run it over with a truck?

My Kingston Intel X25-M died a week after installing it. Best you can do is contact the supplier for a replacement

Considering the problems I have had, I think I will replace it with an ordinary HDD. Have not found any solution to the Raid issue. Perhaps try again in a year or so, when I hope to build my own machine.

SSD and W7 is up and running again. Chkdsk on a laptop brought it back. Strange it could not be done from installation DVD. Sounds like it would be difficult to get my Vista backup back if I get problems with my Raid disks.

So here is the rest of the story.
The SSD failed a couple of more times, was restored with checkdisk but finally gave in. Could not even be formatted. Replaced it. The new disk survived but Vista start-up was slow and Intel Toolbox could of course not be run as the SSD was running on the nForce controller. Reported itself as a SCSI unit and the Intel Toolbox saw it as a Raid device.

Got myself an ASUS U3S6 PSI Ex x4 controller card with two internal SATA III ports and two external USB 3. Plugged the card into the outermost PCI Ex slot, as recommended, and booted into Vista. Installed the USB drivers but not the Marvell AHCI driver. Did the same in W7 on the SSD. Shut down the comp and reconnected the SSD to one of the new card's SATA ports. Booted into BIOS, disabled the SATA port, the SSD was previously installed upon. Its new location was identified by BIOS and I moved it up in boot priority order. Booted into W7 and it installed nicely as an AHCI enabled device. Same in Vista. Now running on Standard Microsoft AHCI driver and the Intel Toolbox works and trims nicely. In fact, as far as I understand, it should now trim automatically.

If anybody else got this problem with a Dell XPS 720, this seems a solution to recommend. Nice to have both USB 3 and Sata III too.
