Installing Windows 7 x64 SP1 from scratch on a brand new pc.

The Asus X99 Deluxe/U3.1 that I have bought came with a drivers disk: LAN, RAID, Bluetooth, audio, whatever.

Also with Intel USB 3.0 controller driver.
After necessary rebooting Windows freezes: alt-ctrl-del even does not work.

Question: do I need these drivers?
Really don't know. Maybe they are already in the Windows install ?

Seems to me that once Windows freezes after only having installed audio and LAN drivers and I need to reboot using the powerbutton, Windows is less stable.

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers already? - not those individual drivers. If yes, did you check if there is a newer version?

No, not yet.

Note: I am right now re-installing Windows again, on my other PC. I have not yet installed anything from the 'support' CD.

There is a 3.1 card on board of the PC.

THe first time(s) I went on to install
1. Realtek Audio Driver V6.0.1.7344
2. Asmedia USB3.1/3.0 Driver V1.16.23.0
3. Intel(R) Gigabit Ethernet Driver V19.1.51.0

In that sequence. Wasn't sure about the Intel USB 3.0 though, so the last time I added that on top, after the LAN driver - resulting in a freeze, so I wondered whether at all I need that driver, assuming it would have been built into Windows (?)

(display driver is on a separate cd-rom)

When you install Windows and get to desktop, first thing you should install is the chipset drivers.

It is possible Windows has generic drivers for those devices but may result in limited functionality.

From the list you have given:
1- Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V10.0.20
2- Intel(R) Gigabit Ethernet Driver V19.1.51.0

Run Windows Update - takes a while (let it find the drivers that it can in the process)
Make a backup/image with Macrium free (or your paid software if there is one) - (recommended)
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html
Install the rest of drivers haven't been found yet
Install your programs/applications
Install DirectX/Visual C++ Redistributable service packed versions *
Fine tune/optimize/customize your OS installation
Create another image with Macrium free (recommended)

* For 32-bit systems install only the x86 versions of VC Redist, for 64-bit systems install both the x86 and x64 versions. There are 2005/2008/2010/2012 versions available from MS website.

Thank you so much.
I did install Windows quite a number of times on earlier occassions and also this time, with the new pc, I installed it a few times. Nothing to do with Windows but rather it had to do with partitioning matters.

Now one thing is important for me to know...

I never in my life bothered about the chipset. This may come as a surprise, but there was no real reason for I guess.

As said, I usually installed Windows, LAN, audio and graphics and that was pretty much it.

Is there a way to find out the current chipset version?
What will this 'chipset utility' do?

Have now paused the installation and wait for your views.

Thanks!

ps I am using Macrium (paid) version.

Thanks Gokay!
Installed the Intel Chipset thing, audio, and LAN-driver now.

Let's see what happens.

Know there will be a lot coming in. Yesterday 210 files and in a 2nd step some 50... :)

An Intel user should answer that, as I have no way of verifying. I use AMD. :)
