I had a similar problem which I finally traced to a backup program I was using. It was doing a "safe delete" which meant it was stashing everything which I deleted in a subfolder of C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Using a program similar to Spacemonger I tracked down the problem in no time and with one simple unticking of a setting in my backup software cured the problem permanently. It sounds like you may have something similar going on.

The inability to use the Intel SSD toolbox is another matter. Since you're still so early in the process of setting up the computer (few programs installed), I'd be inclined to go along with the wipe-and-reload suggestions. As an alternative, maybe try reinstalling the SSD toolbox as Administrator?

Enabling AHCI after that fact did cause me some problems, reverting to IDE solved them. I am tempted to redo my install to see if it really makes much of a difference. Note I have a different SSD than you.

That happened to me because I ran that Intel 'Optimizer' procedure. I had to reformat the drive.

Did you run the Intel 'Optimizer' procedure, as mentioned by McSeven above?

Thanks for all the replies and ideas ppl. As i mentioned earler, The intel SSD toolbox will not actually function correctly on this machine. Once i install it, it can scan and see the SSD drive but the buttons on the side are greyed out. All i can click on is the REFRESH and EXIT buttons.

If none of the suggestions mentioned so far have helped, looks like a reformat and re-install may be the only option left.

Have a good look through the AHCI tutorial at the link below for anything you may have missed or enable it in the BIOS before you start the install to see if that'll work for you
