Intel's Thunderbolt - (Light Peak) announced

I am not very happy with Intel that they provided exclusivity until 2012 to Apple. I hope that competitors challenge Intel on this score!

they done this when the usb connection first came out

I disagree. The original article was correct. It was talking about aggregate bandwidth of the interconnect and not necessarily to a single device.

.. this little Mini DisplayPort connector includes 20 Gb/s of throughput in each direction, plus up to two DisplayPort v1.1a connections with 8.64 Gb/s each.

Anandtech obviously agrees with it as well.

We will see who is right.

Intel says 2 10GBs channels Bi-Directional. There are NOT 2 additional channels for DisplayPort. Display Port traffic is mixed in with the other traffic on those 2 links.

Again, I think that you are wrong. It seems to me that "TWO full DUPLEX channels" say it all.

Also, from the drawings it looks like the pins for the Displayport and Thunderbolt connections are separate. This is where Fosket's "plus up to two DisplayPort v1.1a connections with 8.64 Gb/s each" comes from. This is supported by Intel statements (8:15) that you can use a passive DP PlusPLus to HDMI adapter and have the cable work otherwise IMO it would require a busmaster type device/active cable at the end point.

All of this should become pretty obvious over the next few days and weeks.

Dell monitors do have display port connector. The newest ones, at least, does.
