Internal HD housing exchange problem

I recently bought a HD internal housing from Sharkoon SATA QuickPort Intern 1-Bay
This is hot swap-able.
However, if I change the drive, windows explorer displays the previous HD.
There is no way like an external USB to cast out the device.
Also Configuration disk management etc. show the same previous drive.
So I have to reboot before I have access to the new drive.
Wonder if there would be an option like an USB drive does?
The device seems to connect exactly like a real SATA drive.

My guess is you have the internal housing (also known as an internal hot swap bay or, more simply, hot swap bay or swap bay) connected to SATA ports that either do not have hot swap capability or the hot swap capability has not been turned on. Also, your SATA ports have to be set to AHCI before Hot Swap can be enabled (assuming the ports have that capability). All this has to be done from within the BIOS.

What I found is an enabled enhanced option for SATA in the bios.
In the register I found some 20 strings related to AHCI. So I guess the drivers are installed.
However I don't know how to turn that on in windows yet?

Came to a possible solution.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
Change the value to decimal 0
No Idea where the original value 3 stands for.
"Start"=dword:00000003

After that, reboot and than the BIOS shows the AHCI option.
It doesn't work quick. It takes considerable time before Windows detect the HD absent ans thrown out.
But indeed it finally disappears out of explorer and the new drive could be mounted.
Still it won't always show up?

It seems that the ACPI option is only available before the installation of Windows.

I looked up the manual for your motherboard and it's older than I originally thought. Apparently, it does not support hot swap. If it did, it would clearly have an option for enabling hot swap.

One can use hot swap bays on a system without a bios hot swap.

BUT they can only be used properly by turning the computer off, add or remove the hot swap bay drive and reboot.
It just makes it easier to add and remove drives without going inside the computer tower. BUT one still has to power down first. It's a basic external Sata and power connection.

Even though both my systems are Hot Swap bios I still catch myself shutting down before adding or removing a Hot Swap drive.
Old habits are hard to break.

Your right about that.
It's to messy to hot swap drives and the result is unpredictable.
So I reboot. I don't need much swapping.
The second HD runs most of the time idle, so why keep it mounted inside?
I take it out and use it only when necessary or for a backup.
