Internet Connection Dropping Out.

My notebook can still access the internet when it has dropped out on the desktop.

It's frustrating I get it, been there myself.

I would do

ipconfig /flushdns

I'm guessing you did that already

Next:
I would go to the manufacturer of your motherboard and download the drivers for your Lan/Wifi and your motherboard.

The way I search for drivers for my computers is to always put "support" in the search. It usually weeds out the scam sites using google search. Your results may vary be careful go for https and make sure everything is spelled right (https or ssl certificates are free now so be leary for copycat sites).

IE:

support asus

support compaq presario

support realtek "your lan card"  "Windows 7"

The reason you will need to download the drivers is because you should go into device manager and uninstall the device then reinstall.

If it still cuts out every so often buy and install a new lan card.

If it still cuts out demand a new router from your ISP

If it still cuts out buy new Lan cable.

I still stand on my advice for disabling and leave it that way "DNS Client" in "services.msc" if you are using the hosts file to block sites. It is an absolute must for large hosts files.

I would also completely remove spybot then reboot and then reinstall it, I do not use spybot anymore but I do understand why you use it.

Thanks for the response! It may be awhile before I can try any of this (and I have questions on how to do some things). I was up all night with my *&^%$#@! allergies plus I need to go to my pharmacy and rip them a new one or two over a prescription FUBAR once I can get enough sleep to be able to safely drive (2017 has been the worst year ever for just about everything)!

Follow my reasoning.

2 days ago my Mrs lappy encountered a problem whereby the internet dropped out AFTER loading her browser, tried all the normal fix's no change.
Today tried to update my W10 IP build got same problem.

So that got me to thinking its gotta be the router, my lappy was still happily chugging along.

I then checked its settings,(router), for some odd reason the security level encryption was set to WPA, it should NOT have been that, but WPA2 psk, changed it and also did a reset.
Lo and behold those 2 faulty babies are up and running again.

I established early on the router wasn't the problem. When the internet would disconnect on the computer, my notebook could still connect to the internet. I would still have the problem when using the modem only with the router disconnected (my computer is connected usin via Ethernet; only my printer is currently connected via Wi-Fi.

I checked the router settings anyway. Both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands have WPA2-PSK encryption.

I was taking a break from trying to fix the drop out problem. I was waiting for an Ethernet card I ordered from Newegg well over a week ago to see if the problem was hardware but idiotic, misbegotten DHL sent it to the Phoenix USPS from the Los Angeles area via Denver (Denver?). It finally got delivered to my mail service yesterday but I haven't had a chance get there yet.

Adding insult to injury, the boot SSD in my computer took a dump earlier today and I went through several infuriating hours of Hell on Earth replacing it with another SSD, then trying to get Macrium Reflect to restore to it. I don't feel like going into details about all the idiotic error messages for the BIOS, etc. and having to restore twice (once I eventually got that far) twice before it would finally take (I think the MBR wound up in the wrong place the first time). It was weird! Right now, I'm brain fried and my throat is sore from screaming at the stupid thing (2017 has been the second worst year of my life so far). On the odd chance that the recently deceased SSD was the culprit, I'm going to wait to see if the dropouts resume or not. It's only been an hour or so since I got the stupid computer running again.

Proxy is set in network settings for Firefox and ie. In the scan when you think it dropped it shows it had done ping and DNS lookup OK so there is no fault with modem or router etc and as it still gets out the network is working so it's a browser type of fault
