Internet doesn't work on win7 machine

Hi

My internet has suddenly stopped working on my windows 7 machines but it still works on my xp machines. i am connected to the network but all my windows 7 machines tell me i got no access to the internet wich i don't seem to have either.

so im asking here for a soulotion.

my router is a Samsung Gigaset SE551 WLAN dsl/cable along with a zylexel modem and a d-link router.
and the windows 7 computers is a laptop and a stationary computer both x64 systems. (the laptop runs with the wirless network comming from the samsung router and the stationary runs with network cable from the d-link router)

Varying on your Network Adapter/Driver, you may have to allow your TCP/IP & DNS to set automatically, rather than manually. If anything, the easiest way to check for issues is to right click on your "Network" Icon in your System Tray, and click "Troubleshoot Problems".

Manual Steps:

1. Rick Click the Network Icon in your System Tray.
2. Left Click "Open Network and Sharing Center".
3. In the Left window pane, click "Change Adapter Settings".
4. Right Click "Local Area Connection"
5. Left Click on "Properties" (and Allow the UAC)
6. Click on "Internet Protocol Version 6".
7. Click the "Properties" button.
8. Make sure the "Obtain {yada-yada} automatically" radio-box is selected on both the IP and the DNS.
9. Click OK.
10. Do the same for "Internet Protocol Version 4".
11. Restart your Computer

If the Issue still exists after these steps, verify that your Router or Modem is compatible with Windows 7.

Not all routers will work correctly with a Windows 7 based System.

They where already like that now that i checked on both my windows 7 computers

and i forgot to mention that the internet worked fine on both computers yesterday and went like this, this morning.

I had the same problem. Try this:
1. Open "Device Manager"
2. Disable your Network Adapter
3. Wait a few seconds and re-enable the Network Adapter

Tried that aswell, still no internet, didn't restart between the disable tough.


getting verry annoying that it works on every single computer in my house BUT not my windows 7 machines.

i maybe should mention that i got the lastest firmware on all my routers but it doesn't made any diffrence

and like i mentioned later it all started this morning, everything worked like a good flower yesterday. i also have called my internet provider and they tell me that there shouldn't be any operating errors for now.

Anyway. I'm guessing windows probably updated your ethernet drivers on your windows 7 box. Uninstall your network adapter and re-install it using these drivers.

Using dual routers will cause problems because of having two internet gateways. There should only be one router on your network if you want to work correctly. Sometimes you can bypass the WAN connection on one of the routers and use it as a switch but that configuration is usually not supported.

So the only way for me to get my net working on my win7 machines is to remove one router? i got two since i got over 6 computers that needs internet. and my first router only supports 4. so thats why i got 2.

but its odd for me that it worked before and just suddenly stopped working this morning..

Yes it won't be very reliable that way. You should be using a switch there instead of a router or if you need to have wireless and wired you can use a wireless access point or use a router that supports both.

There are also ways to use the router as a switch by bypassing the WAN connection but that configuration isn't officially supported by D-link. You can google the set up procedure for that but it's much easier to just use a switch.

il see what i can do with the routers, but i really dont think that is the problem since it has worked before.

and its still not working on any of my win7 machines, so the drivers seem to not be a problem, however im going to try it. thanks. will repost when i have and tell the result

It's worth a try if you don't want to purchase anything. Standard set up procedure for this below. D-link also has their own set up procedure for this somewhere but it's not officially supported.

If you want to connect 2 routers and allow them to have a network of computers communicating just hook up one of the ports of your first router into one of the LAN (not wan)ports on your second router. Be sure to disable DHCP server on the second router and set the second routers address to something different than the first if you want to access it on the network. Your second router will act like a switch so your first router will be assigning IP addresses to them so make sure you have DHCP on the first router.

You where kind of right here, after ALOT and yet again ALOT of troubleshoting it seems like one of my that i called router that actualy where a switch was giving out a wrong gateway. so i had to manually change the gateway and then renew my ipconfig to make my internet work on all win7 machines. thank you.

and i also made your tip, i removed the other switch/router or whatever it is and installed a real switch instead so now i only got a modem, a router and a big enough switch to give internet to all my machines.

Well you choose the easy way then. Good idea just to simplify things a bit. I'm glad that you got it up and running Hawake. That procedure I outlined would have probably worked but it's much easier to just use a switch.
