Internet drops for browsers/Steam/AVG but Skype still works

The internet randomly stops working for browsers (IE, Chrome) but Skype always works. The outages will last for about 5 minutes or so. During these outages, the Store section of Steam also does not display anything and AVG cannot update.

So in other words, everything but Skype will periodically refuse to connect to the internet for a short while then just as randomly start working again.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Why not start by removing AVG as it's by far the most likely suspect here.

Okay, it's all here.

I was looking at Addition.txt. There's a lot of stuff pertaining to Steam and FalloutNV. I removed Steam and all games/backup data from my computer last week for unrelated reasons. (This was before I posted on Seven Forums but after my internet problems started.)

Sorry for the delay...
Tried MSE too, didn't catch anything the other applications missed.
I've noticed something: the outages happen after the computer starts, maybe 2 minutes after Windows loads. The internet may go down at a random time after this but it always goes down after the computer starts up. Again, Skype continues to work.
Borrowed my friend's tablet to see if that would connect during an outage (via wireless router). It too was affected but came back online at the time time my PC did.

Sounds like a power setting in the router . Did you check the settings in your router ? What is the model of your router ?

Router is a D-Link, DIR-655. Nothing appears to be wrong with the router but I've submitted a support ticket.

My ISP has not been helpful. Tried asking them, just get run-around answers.

If you've got any more ideas, that would be great. In the meantime I'll be pestering D-Link and my ISP. Will post a follow-up if they can't/won't help.

I'm running the same router, but I've never seen my DIR-655 do anything like this.

If it's a router problem then just resetting it will fix the problem, just ensure that you have set up a valid DNS server in the routers set up page. Try using Google at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

And removing AVG completely would be the first thing, yes I say this from experience.
