Internet Explorer 11 passes 9 and 10 combined

April, the month that theoretically saw Windows XP drop out of support, was unfortunately not marked by the precipitous decline of Windows XP usage on the Internet. It was down, a little bit, but it unfortunately remains a significant feature of the computing landscape. In better news, Internet Explorer 11 has become the most widely used "modern" version of Internet Explorer. There are now more people using Internet Explorer 11 than Internet Explorer 9 and 10 combined. This can only be a good thing for Web developers.

Good for developers perhaps, for users perhaps not. I "upgraded" to 10 when it was released and had problems; when 11 was released I "upgraded" to it hoping MS had worked out some of the bugs my system displayed using 10, but alas 11 was much worse than 10, although I tolerated it for some time using workarounds.

I recently re-installed the OS to reconfigure with two SSDs (one for all apps) and upgraded from IE 8 to 9 but will remain with 9 for now. It works well.

If they release a new version of a software, is not bad keep it updated. But if the number of users to previous versions is acceptable, must also keep it updated and optimized. A happy user = Like

If that's the case then why is this forum so loaded with posters having problems with either getting it installed or problems with other things once it is?

Mostly because they are completely infected 60%
Another 20% have way to many uninstalled properly third party security suites = corrupted user accounts added to the 60% of users being completely infected,

The other 20% have some sort of attraction for goofy third party browser add-ons,
The list of goofy add-ons is pretty wild
The majority are so they have a feeling of being more secure

I highly doubt if I will upgrade to IE11 anytime soon, I am happy with 10 and it works great and I don't have any problems with it

I agree ie10 is fine as wine and easier for me to use developer tools than 11 so I rolled back once again

It's a PEBKAC issue I suspect, like many things we see here.

I have always used IE as my primary browser and have had no issues. Issues are when website people fall behind and continue to make things compatible with FF.

Firefox and chrome are what developers like coding webpages for. They hate internet explorer. It is always the last browser to develop new technologies. HTML5 is a prime example.

Internet explorer 7 was the first version that offered tabbed browsing, 3 years behind firefox.

Trust me, web developers make the other browsers a priority first, then trickle down to the IE users.

This is also the reason companies are abandoning using IE as their main browser. It integrates so much with windows that it causes to many headaches due to having to support to many versions of internet explorer when a new version of windows comes out. The new standards are starting to be chrome and firefox in businesses to avoid the pain of internal ancient web browsers optimized for IE5. Ick.

Internet explorer 11 is going to do its best to help though, with enterprise mode. Basically allowing internal sites to be in compatibility mode deploy-able thorough group policy. Which can already be done, just that enterprise mode has way better support for the ancient stuff and truly emulates the old engines, rather then patching the code to make it work.

Web developers should be aiming toward IE7 and XP machines too. :sarc: Or learn how to satisfy the bigger portion of users, IE user. The 1967 VW bug is also under developed.

I watched a video of a Microsoft staff show how easy it was to use "developer tools" and it was like it should of been in the bloopers section,

They don't appear to care that IE11 ruins Win7 gadgets. I brought this to their attention at MVP Global Summit and an IE Team member told me those gadgets aren't secure anyway - just waving away a feature that tens of millions love in their only successful OS.

They want us all off gadgets, that much is obvious. They use the "insecure" as their excuse. They want us on apps, and then they will be subscription apps. they have their own agenda, and they could give a flying....if we like gadgets or not. A Guy

They have started to care slightly more now about feedback since that windows 8 is such a flop
