Internet explorer not working with google and bing

When setting up internet explorer I have set to GOOGLE as my home page: Just recently I find that I get the message there is a fault on the webpage (GOOGLE) and it does not m proceed so I tried switching to BING: I found the same problem with BING. With GOOGLE CHROME then it is working OK. Right now I do not know which version of Explorer I have. An suggestions on how I can find out which Explorer version I have and how I can use google as my home page again.

first, did you try any other pages to see if it is your wireless? secondly to see what version of IE you use, go to the gear symbol in the top right orner and you will find an "about Internet Explorer" option at the bottom of the menu

Thank you for your thoughts: The Explorer program is closing on me, but I did get to tell me on one occasion it was v 11. The Wireless is working OK. I use GOOGLE Chrome 1 and accessed other webpages.

I tried entering Fidelity investments into the home page of Explorer instead of GOOGLE and Yahoo the explorer does go to these sites but then it fails to open the website and then tells you there is an error on the page.
I am wondering how to check if I have a virus: I have MBAB and right now I have run it and no objects were found. Is there a freeware program that will check for a virus for me?
