Internet gets cut

Hi!

I recently installed Win7 and I'm kind of pleased but I've got a very disturbing issue. Whenever I try to download something my internet gets cut for some reason. I read that there are several others who've got the same problem. I wonder if there is any solution to this problem? It complains about my network adapter. My internet goes down and I have to restart my computer most of the time in order to get back online.

I've got the same problem as mentioned here "http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/811-internet-problems.html". The person in question got it solved by installing the latest drivers. I've got the latest drivers (from MSI's site) for my card. My "ethernet card" is attached to my mainboard so I'm not really sure what to look for if I wanted to install the ethernet drivers separate. But my mainboard is K9N SLI, from MSI.

I really want to see this solved. Please help!

Can we get some info from you. what mobo, what model, ram, etc

Can you type device manager in search>go to the networking tap. look to see if your driver is there and if it has a yellow triangle on it.

Also look for any 'unknown' devices with yellow

I have the Asus p5b-plus with the Atheros L1 gigabit adapter and I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. I was getting frequent disconnects when transferring large files over the network or downloading torrents. This required me to run through the troubleshooter each time to allow it to work temporarily again.

I fixed this by going into the driver properties panel> Advanced> Task Offload> Off. After it reset I was running fine.

Are you refering to all the "Large send Offload" that is under the driver properties? I can't find anything with the name "Task Offliad".

I've tried turning it off and it didn't help.

Well I've got a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz, 4,00 GB RAM. The NIC is integrated within the mainboard and is a Nvidia chipset.

The drivers are there and are working. There is an unknown device, but it's a USB port så I doubt it has got anything to do with this I'm afraid.

I've tried everything from looking for a better driver, but since I don't know exactly what to look for when the card is integrated and all, I don't wanna mess things up even more than things are. I've also tried puting off power save for PCI Express, I read somewhere that it could help. And finally, I tried to turn off the "Task Offload" thingy. It didn't help. :/

It seems that this is not so uncommon after all. I've consulted google and read on several forums of people experiencing similar problems with loosing their connection and being forced to run troubleshoot or rebooting their computer in order to get back online. None of them had this problem before they switched to Win7. Sadly I'm one of them. I know there is nothing wrong with my computer because my laptop has got the same issue and none of them has ever done anything like this before.

Are you using homegroup for networking?

I assmumed it was. Homegroup has a whole series of problems with it. It uses IPv6 and IPv6 has been shown to cause random drops, dl slowdowns, share probs etc. You can use workgroup and make the change fairly easily.

All it take is to go into networking and set up a new network using workgroup. After you finish getting it set up you can go back and delete the homegroup and disable the IPv6

Amen to that. It's really frustrating! Now my internet gets cut even when I'm just looking for reference pictures and I can't have that when I'm working.

It doesn't seem like we'll get any help with our problem here...

Yep..Well. I don't wanna leave Windows 7-it's fast I like it. But i can't download files on 15-20kb/s, while on XP i have 70-100+kb/s. Tried lots of things-nothing helped. I'm using ethernet cable so as support said, it's not my router problem. And why there must be any problem? On the same settings i used XP-it was perfect. So it's windows 7 problem. I updated drivers for network adapter-nothing. Turned-off unused protocols-nothing. Firewall and Antivirus-turnoff (even removed antivirus)-nothing (no viruses found either). I think i'll wait for Service pack 1 or some fixes. Just tired..

I know, I've tried loads of stuff too. But I think it's really ****ty that you dont get any support. It might be tough that they don't have a clue what is wrong or something. Anyway, the strange thing is that I know people who's got the same type of computer as me and they are't experiencing any problems. There's nothing wrong with my stuff, because it worked just fine before.

I've read about this firmware update before. And i think that only works for USB users. I'm using Ethernet cable, and as support said "Ethernet connection does not depend on the driver or modem firmware. It is likely to be other causes that is causing the slow surfing". However, I'll try to use another router model and see if something will change

When you were using Win7? Or did it happen before that as well? I've never encounterd anything like this before. It started to appear just after I installed Win7. Since so many has got this problem, I find it hard to believe they all had routers who made their lives miserable. But Win7 might be picky, I don't know. But what I do know is that I want a fix.

I'll try surfing and downloading without my router and see what happens.

This happened to me after I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. The speed issue definitely has to do with out dated firmware and drivers for the router or network adapter. I use a USB wireless adapter by Linksys. I'm pretty happy to have my speed back and much better performace than XP Pro.

Just keep tweaking that router, you'll get there too.
