I have the EXACT same problem!

I just reformatted and to get the music off my iPod i made sure I did a couple things.

-Make sure you have the latest iTunes installed. Only when iTunes opens will my iPod be recognized.
-If you want to get the music OFF your iPod, keep your iPod plugged in, then restart your computer. After it restarted your iPod should stay recognized.

That worked for me. Good luck man, I thought i was alone with that problem.

In case this helps anyone else ... my solution was to right-click-exit out of everything running in the system tray and all unnecessary apps running in task manager. I'm not sure exactly which app was causing the auto-disconnection followed by re-connection with my apple iphone 4. If I figure out which specific app caused the problem, I'll post a follow-up for others.

Hi, I had the same issue with itunes in windows 7 ultimate x64 version, latest version being 12.3.2.35
I have solved the disconnecting issue by checking "Run as Administrator" option for itunes. Hope this helps
