IPv6 and Networking Homegroups

I created the homegroup after installing windows 7 on both machines; therefore I did not recieve the above prompt.

Since it is possible to create two seperate homegroups with two different passwords this may be part of the problem. You should attempt to remove one of the machines from the homegroup then use the original password to reconnect.

Okay I have done that, but it is only giving me access to create a homegroup, not to join.

It should work provided you have all of these enabled in advanced sharing. If not you may want to look around for some very recent either-net driver upgrades for your machines.

I've checked all these items and run through all the tutorials. My two computers can access each other via typical workgroup networking, but the laptop cannot see the homegroup set up on the desktop. It can create a homegroup, but the desktop can't see it.

That is strange indeed, and this same complaint about Homegroup has come up many times already here with no clear resolution to the problem.

Zigzag says that Homegroups is the worst thing ever but for me it's been El' perfecto so go figure.

For me, It's the best thing ever when it's working right and I've never had a problem with it.
The set up with networked machines was truely impressive for me, machine goes online after installing Op system first boot, prompt to join homegroups appears, type in the password,..done everything shared.

If that isn't how it happend for you then something is wrong.

I can easily stream movies, music files what ever to any machine. I tested a cross stream of movies, sharing DVD drives from one machine to the other back and forth between 4 machines and 4 different monitors and every movie played perfectly.

It's a confusing problem to be certain. I guess that all we can hope for is a patch or driver update.

Homegroups is the latest in a long list of giant failures for Microsoft. I have two fresh Windows 7 systems on a wired network. VNC works between them. Workgroup networking works between them. But Homegroups does not work. I have tried all recommended procedures. I give up. It's not me, Microsoft, it's you.

Interesting. Homegroups is turning into the dodgy bit of WIN7.
The buggy way that WIN7 manages IPv6 for Homegroups and now this.

The mouse took most research. I hate that click on the wheel, this one has the old fashioned smooth wheel. There aren't many about.
so, would changing it to workgroup be any better?

i can't seem to enable IPv6 :(
