Is 64 bit worth it on this machine

I have the RC 32bit installed on an MSI K9VGM-V motherboard with 2GB and an AMD 64 bit processor. The motherboard, if I read the manual correctly, says I can go to 2GB in each of the two memory slots.

Assuming I can to to 4GB, is it worth going to the 64 bit version of Win 7 in October with just 4GB of memory? Seems like I remember reading somewhere that the difference in performance between 32 and 64 bit OS is small with that amount of memory.

It is not likely that you will experience a real difference.

However, if you intend to use that machine for a few more years, I would go 64-bit.

Must I go to 4GB from my present 2GB in order to use the 64bit version effectively?

the more ram you have, the better.

ram is cheap and makes a big difference.

4 gigs are good, and should be enough for most folks - if you run lots of big programs at the same time, consider getting a little more.

According to the specs,

MSI Global – Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

2 GB max. If it helps any I ran Vista x64 with only 2 GB for over a year with no problems before going to 4 GB. Granted things were a bit quicker with the 4 over 2, but not to the point that you see some of the doom and gloom sayers saying.
