Is DVI better then the normal monitor cable?

i was always wondering if i should get a DVI cable.
what are the pro's and cons of it?
Is it producing better Video Quality?

If you can go with DVI, do it.

At least on my monitors, the one that is hooke up via VGA definitely show a slightly inferior picture than the other two that are hooked up via DVI. It's not terrible, but I can notice it. If you only have one monitor and switch cables, you might not notice the difference. If you have two monitors and can hook one up via VGA and the other via DVI, the difference should be slightly noticeable.

Since you use a TV monitor it would have to have a DVI input that is for use with a PC, if your TV monitor is now running using an RGB connection that is more than likely the only PC connection it has.

About 10 years ago I would have agreed with that, but newer, recent VGA graphic cards have shown a lot less of a difference in image quality compared to DVI, but still if you can go DVI, then definitley setup through DVI.

Though a VGA cable affects the image quality, whereas DVI/HDMI doesn't as it's digital, it either works or it doesn't work. For what it's worth you could use a metal clothing hanger and it'd still work, unlike VGA where the quality of the cable counts through analogue.

one more thing, do i have to configure the options, to let my Pc know that im using a DVI cabel?

Since it was not mentioned in the posts, I wish to alert you to the fact that there are different DVI cables - your choice being dictated by the ports on both your monitor and gfx card.

Given you unfamiliarity with DVI, you might consider this brief article which discusses the options and gives you clear images which will help in identifying the ports on your components. Both your monitor and gfx card support DVI-D; whether it's single or dual link I was not able to immediately determine.

As a general rule, I should think you would choose cables to take advantage of your component's greatest capability/flexibility.

Also with DVI, if supported, HDCP is enabled allowing blu-ray playback (if you choose that upgrade later).

dvi is digital.

most ppl dont see much a big difference its not a big deal. but if u can do so use dvi. ull see a bit less noise on ur monitor

There is DVI-A which uses the DVI connector but is only Analog.

I ordered this cable from Amazon last week to hook up my 3rd screen and it was pretty cheap, not sure if you have Amazon in the Netherlands though. I needed 10 feet since 6 feet was too short.
