Is IE6 insecure?

I work for a major IT retail outlet who still use XP and IE6 on their till systems!!

- I use Win7Prox64 SP1, I have training to complete which can be done at home...problem is most of these test pages wont open unless you have IE6 or Firefox 2 installed??? ive tried all latest versions of IE, FF and Chrome to no avail. It repeatedly says must have IE6 or Firefox 2 installed.

I heard that IE6 is full of security holes and should not be used?

if this is not true is there anyway to emulate IE6 at home to complete the training?

IE6 has its issues, but it really does not matter because I don't think that you can install IE6 on W7. You could revert to IE8 and use the various compatibility modes, but I can almost guarantee that you will encounter problems. There are a variety of browsers that attempt to emulate IE6, but why bother? Since you have W7 pro, use this...

...and you will also have XP and IE6 running inside of a window for free.

My personal preference is to setup the XP Mode like you like it and then freeze it. Freezing means that when you exit the Virtual Machine (VM), all changes to the VM are dropped. Any infection that gets into the VM will go away when you exit the VM. I would also remove the connection to the host computer. In other words, I would not let the XP OS get to the hard drive of the host computer..... but that's just me.

This is true,
This company needs to enter the real world,
Or never let their system access the internet,
Although this might be a test outside of the real test - testing your knowledge of security risks
