Is it possible to boot from an ISO?

I installed Acronis True Image Home 2010 and created a Bootable Rescue Media in ISO format stored on my backup drive. If my computer were to crash and unable to boot into Windows, could I access the ISO on my usb backup drive and restore my system?

The ISO is only 72MB and I don't want to waste a CD or DVD.

Doesn't a blank cd cost like a nickel? You could install the ISO file onto a USB key..but that will be far more costly than a CD.

Just use the CD....you are talking about the ability to recover your machine in the event of a disaster....seems well worth the effort to use 1 blank cd.

Ok, I don't have any CDs but don't want to go out and buy one or waste a DVD. I already have a 1TB external USB HDD and a 8GB USB Flash drive.

Acronis needs the flash drive to be in FAT32 format so my Flash Drive is out of the question.

Your external is the right place to store the Acronics image you have created. But to recover a trashed box and restore that image you need to be able to boot the box the True image program. You need to burn a $.10 TrueImage Boot disc to do so...

Hi there
Easier solution

1) Create a small say 100 MB partition
2) Create your bootable media on to the small HDD partition
3) in the boot menu inthe BIOS add this disk into the boot "priority" menu -- most Bioses allow you to list a number of HDD's for "Boot order Priority" -- or sometimes pressing F8 on boot will throw up a boot menu.
