Is it possible to clean install?

Hi everyone. I'm about to buy the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade version. Is it possible to do a clean install from it? (I have a preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium on my pc). If not, what is the preferred product to do this?

If it was me, once I bought a version, I would then download the .iso file I needed that corresponded to my license key and platform (32 or 64 bit) from the usual MyDigitalLife link. Then, you can do a full, clean install the normal way, and pop in your key a few days later when you are happy with it.

Ok thanks but if I want to reinstall Windows 7 (fresh install), do I have to use the full version disc of any kind of Windows 7 (HP, Professional, Ultimate)?

Quite true that this can be easily done. Also read it in one of Livingstone's NewsLetters a long time back.

But why doesn't Microsoft advertise this feature? And does Microsoft considers it legal? I understand though I am not sure, that an upgrade DVD is very much cheaper than an OEM DVD.

Hello Wanchoo,

Microsoft allowed this option so that owners of legal copies of a qualifying OS (ex: Vista) do not have to install it first, then upgrade to Windows 7. Instead, they will be allowed to install a clean copy of Windows 7 directly. They did this to make it convenient and easier for their customers.

If you do not have a legally owned qualifying copy of a OS to be eligible for the upgrade copy of Windows 7 instead of having to buy a full copy of Windows 7, then you are violating the Microsoft EULA and would be considered to be the same as having an illegal copy of Windows 7.
