Is it possible to reverse the "Always use this program"?

I went to open a file, and when it asked me what program I wanted to use to open it, I clicked Windows Media Centre.

For some reason my Skype, Google, IE, Word Excel, Outlook etc. are now all Windows Media Centre applications and when I click on any of those shortcuts, it opens Windows Media Centre- not the actual program or shortcut.

Same with the taskbar-all the icons are now WMC icons.

Have tried from the control panel both default programs and associate a file type but they list the correct defaults as they should be not as they. I also tried to do a system restore but this too opens in WMC so I cannot access system restore to revert to an earlier version. Have opened in Safe mode, again all of those programs open in WMC, similarly because the internet browsers are the same, I cannot access the internet to download any fixes.....

Can anyone offer any assistance at all please?

If these are all shortcuts, then you could download and merge the .reg file for the listed .lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below to restore their default associations.
