Is it possible to share game folders over a network?

Even though we are reaching an era where everything requires a connection to the internet, there are still some games that require localized data. I was wonder if it were possible to share these game folders over a home network. The objective is to have the same saved game files on multiple computers. Then if I’m on my desktop or laptop I can still start where I left off on either computer. Is this possible?

Ignore the pay services, all you need is the free basic service for this. It's very unlikely you'll ever meet the memory cap by doing this as game saves are always small files so it will never cost you anything. You will need to install the client on whatever systems you want synced as well.

This will also avoid the downside of the suggestion below, and it works with any game, even Steam titles.

You will need to have a separate install for each game on both computers as this will only allow you to sync your game saves. You can't play a game installed on another computer remotely by doing this, it just keeps the gamesaves synced. It also requires an internet connection, but as you said, what doesn't these days?

So say you want to play New Vegas and pick up a gameplay session from the computer on the laptop exactly where you left off. You'll need to have a copy of New Vegas installed on both the laptop and the computer with the saves folder synced up with Dropbox on both as well.

Hey there, here are the quick steps.


Share the folder on your Main machine,
Make it accessible either to a specific user or everyone.
Map the folder on the remote computer (Use this to help you http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49517-map-network-drive.html)
Create a shortcut to the EXE on your remote machine
Run it.


**Warning**
Doing this may cause several issues,
Slow network speeds
The game may not actually run properly as the EXE is being run from the remote computer
You may corrupt/break saves.
This does not work for Steam games (Yet!)



An easier way would to be to use a backup software such as Dropbox, sync your games folders to it or your save data, and then load them from the dropbox folder. If you want more help with this i can run it through with you.

Quick note, this works for games such as Skyrim, Borderlands 2 and FTL, however the game was physically installed on the remote machine with only access to the save files.

If all you want to do is sync your saved game between computers then, sure you can do that easily.
