Hi,
I would like to know if it is still possible to buy a Windows 7 key in 2021. Where would I have to buy such a key?

The version would be Windows 7 Ultimate, thanks in advance.

What laptop? It is important as many oem machines are already entitled to run win 7 because they have the slic2.1 table in bios. Almost all oem machines between 2009 and 2017 have it.

The oem recovery media (or for machines that came with win8 /8.1 the win7 "downgrade" media ) will automatically activate because they match with the slic table.

Very likely you could use that media. Or if you already have win7 sp1 installation media - then you only need the bit from the dell $oem$ folder, or the hp $oem$ folder, or the lenovo $oem$ folder depending on what machine you have - which avoids downloading the whole thing.

For example, if it is a dell machine with slic 2.1 table:

What is the brand name and model name and model number and serial number of that laptop?
What is the exact Windows version on its C-O-A sticker?

Does it have win7 ultimate legitimately installed at the moment ?

If it does, you can back up the activation, then reinstall fresh and restore the activation.

It is an unusual brand.

Is this the brand?

Positivo appears to be a legitimate name brand, but I can't find a 5950 model.

Can you provide us with some details about that laptop, such as:

Amount of RAM

About a year ago I bought a copy of Win7 pro 64 on Newegg, it was a new sealed MS disk and cost $160+... ouch! As I remember it was the only place I could find one at a semi-reasonable price that wasn't the ultra cheap keys for sale at $10-20 that may or may not work. Have you looked for a copy yet?

Sorry if I seem Nosy, but I'm inclined to ask, "WHY?".
At this late date, for windows 7, why do you want to throw your money down a rat hole? You DO know that Win-7 is NO LONGER supported by Microsoft! Right?
Windows 7, all versions, is available from numerous sources, over the WWW, complete with Pre Activation. No stinkin' key required.
Shhh! You didn't hear that from me!

Did you look under the battery?
Does the laptop still boot? If it does you can retrieve the license to reinstall windows 7.
The Win 7 media (iso file) you can download from MS

As has been already stated, it is generally not a good idea to run windows 7 anymore, However, there are situations where it may be desirable. for example. if you need specific software that only Windows will run, and you despise Windows systems beyond 7. If such is the case, simply keep Windows 7 offline, and use a different OS for the web. Linux is ready, willing and able to fill that need. But you're taking a risk going online with 7 at this point.

Sorry Michael, what you said isn't true.
MS still provide Win 7 updates on a paid program. So Win 7 can be very up to date and safe to be used.
For what I've seen on TenForums, you're more suitable to have all kind of problems (security included) running win 10 than win 7.
For Win 7 up to date, use Single file with all updates - Simplix

Well, I personally won't give Microsoft money to keep safe a system that is the target of the majority of malware attacks. But if someone thinks that's a good idea, it's their money...

Also, the paid update program is aimed at businesses, who may find it cheaper to stay on 7 than switch over hundreds of machines. And just wait until 10 is EOL. Lots of fine machines will be dotting the landfills, as Microsoft will have them obsolete. Just so they can force you to update to 11.

Did I mention Linux?

One thing to remember is that certain versions of Win7 are keyed to the motherboard so if it is a new build with a new mobo you can't use your existing copy... That caught me and was the reason I shelled out my first born son for a new copy.

Only Win 7 SLP license and OEM license is keyed to the motherboard. Retail licenses are transferable.

Thanks for the clarification Megahertz. The old disk was marked HP so I'm guessing it was surplus? The recent disk is marked as being for an OEM installation by a mfg. So neither is a retail version.
