Is It Time For My Laptop To Be Cleaned

I've noticed recently that my laptop gets up to 70C according to CoreTemp and that's when i'm using my Power Saving GPU on my Power Saving Performance setting, which is just plain ridiculous. It never used to be like that. I've had my laptop since September 2010 and i've never cleaned it. Is it most likely to be very clogged with dust by this point?

Sonic,
A cleaning certainly wouln't hurt.

Get a can of compressed air at your favorite electronics store.

Turn off you laptop.

Direct spray away from laptop and spray for a sec or two to get any moisture out of the sprayer.

Now spray into every opening you can find.

Turn on laptop.

How are temps now?

Also filling in your system specs could be helpful.

Thanks for filling in the system specs.

You do not need to take your laptop apart to clean it.

I suggest cleaning and then using either Speccy to monitor your temps or using CoreTemp.

You'll notice a pretty good speed advantage when it's all said and done, and they're right - You don't have to tear it down but if you DO, take my advice and grab your digital camera to take pics of all the screw locations. Check my specs for more info. You'd be surprised what comes out - Mine had dust, hair, a dead spider, and just alot of crud in general.

very true.

Either many pictures or copious notes or truly photographic memory which is extremely rare.

I'm going to clean it with compressed air later today. Coretemp is giving me worrying readings, i was using movie making software and it was almost hitting 90C with the cooling pad turned on. Thing is after i finished exporting the movie file it dropped to 60C almost instantly. Surely temperature can't be reduced by 30C that quickly.

I've seen this thing hit 83C for a few seconds while playing Tomb Raider Anniversary on med-high settings - So it's possible. Is yours an AMD as well? They always run hotter anyways (This one is a single core Turion though)

Mine is an Intel i3 dual core. Cleaning it seems to have worked, it's running 30C cooler than it was. Strange thing is we took the back off of it and could barely see any dust or crud of any kind in it before we put the air through it.

It hides. Behind the fan blades is a big one, which just messes with airflow in it's entirety. Glad you dropped back down in temp :)
