when using a my laptop it stays at around 120-130 for stuff like chrome very quiet. but when i play a more demanding game like minecraft my computer goes to about 170-180 and the fan starts to run faster (and becomes more hearable). is this temperature too hot or is it good enough. the laptop is always on a hard surface. and no visible dust in the vents. i usually will turn it off to let it cool down though after a little bit of time.

175 F is 79 C

125 F is 52 C

52 C shouldn't be an issue for extended periods.

79 C is within the design limit of the CPU, but still quite hot. Whether it will noticeably shorten the life of your laptop is unknown. Your laptop could drop dead even at low temps. Laptops are not the right tool for hard core gaming, but that's no secret. It's a tool, like a screwdriver or anything else. Use it as you see fit and be prepared to replace it if it breaks.

overheat

so the i5 dual core, is meant to be that hot... i guess ill just be sure not to play for hours on end. maybe ill just play for 30 minutes to a hour before i give it a rest. will lowering the resolution to 800-600 make it run cooler? what can i do to cool it off

You should still blow out the vents with compressed air, even if you don't see any visible dust. There may still be some in there. You may want to get a cooling pad for your laptop too. Just use it the way you want and don't worry about the temps unless the fans are spinning really fast and making a lot of noise. Clean it whenever it starts to run hotter than usual. Some laptops simply run hotter. I have one that will get up into the lower (and maybe mid) 70s in degrees Celsius) under full load. It runs great to this day and it is around nine years old. Don't worry too much. Keep it clean and on a hard surface with nothing blocking any of the vents.

In my experience, the stuff I would use has moisture, but the moisture only came out if you turned it upside down or on its sides. I don't think it matters which one you get.

ok, and do u know if theres a difference between power saver and balanced? i know that high performance makes the cpu work at 100% and balanced works slower but will speed up as needed. do you know what power saver does?

Power Saver turns on the maximum power saving options for your wifi card etc. It may also change the CPU settings a bit, but I'm not sure. If you are gaming, you should run it in high performance.

yep that temp is within max temp -for my CPU 98C- it will be fine but beware about your GPU though as it might not have a high max temp and lowering res will still make your pc work as hard because you will get more FPS
