Is my SSD Dying? 200GB missing

AddRAM: attached screen shot of Partition Wizard. Yes; it's a single PCI-e card with two 120GB boards; and two Raptor's in a RAID-0.

whs: Thanks, I'll check that out in the morning (my brief skim makes it look like data recovery, I already recovered all I need to) I will read & watch the videos when I'm not too tired.

That is correct. The original purpose of the tutorial was for data recovery. But the live Linux stick lets you also inspect everything that's on the disk. Then you can go from there.

I have checked out the tutorial and, unless I am missing something, I am unsure how this is helpful to discovering where the missing space has gone; the operating system is running fine on the SSD in question. Is there a utility I should use in Mint that cannot be run in Windows?

As an aside, I have ran 'vssadmin list shadowstorage':
Shadow Copy Storage association
For volume: (C:)\\?\Volume{2a939b54-a1cb-470e-aa56-70d0bb55d9f6}\
Shadow Copy Storage volume: (C:)\\?\Volume{2a939b54-a1cb-470e-aa56-70d0bb55d9f6}\
Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 0 bytes (0%)
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 0 bytes (0%)
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 2.23 GB (1%)

So it does not appear to be this either.

Well it doesn`t look like the drive is dead, because it`s all there, so you have to decide, do you want to reinstall windows AGAIN :hot:

You or something is not doing it right, there should be no more then 20 GB taken up when you`re done, I`ve had my Z170 together for roughly 4 months and I have 38 GB used space.

Either that or start searching every nook and cranny of C til you find what`s taking up the space.

I have no issue rebuilding the PC again; my main concern is that to as I do not think I have done anything stupid nor can I point my finger to anything suspicious I am unconvinced that the same issue will not reappear again (in under a week) once I have rebuilt it.

No. I did install Windows 2000 on it initially then used an upgrade to 7 Ultimate, but no Linux. The Current build is Win 10 fresh install.

Well the choice is yours, you can keep scratching your head, or get busy.

Bootable Partition Manager| MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable Edition

That`s odd, I`m a Computer Technician and every PC I touch runs perfectly when I`m done with it, some of us have it, some of us don`t :D

Maybe you should open the window and see how far you can throw that ssd :roflmao:

But seriously, I would give 7 one more chance, you`ll be done in 15 minutes, and keep those Raptors unplugged for a few weeks.

Don`t install any updates either, not yet, they can wait, but do all your other usuals, turn off system restore, no page file, no hiber file.

Would running HDD Regen from a Hiren Boot CD likely resolve the issue or potentially cause more problems, in anyone's opinion?

If they are physically damaged clusters/sectors cells, whatever, they can not be repaired, but this is an ssd we`re talking about, but I know they can`t be repaired on a conventional hard drive, but at least you`re on to something.

Give it a try, it can`t hurt.

But you have a bad ssd not a bad hard drive.

Personally, I use Hard Disk Sentinel, It shows me the health and performance of every drive on my system, and if a drive has even 1 bad sector, or is not at 100% health and performance, it gets chucked.

Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring

I'll check out Sentinel next.

I personally would use Windows 7 built in defrag and then test the drive.
Some 3rd party defrag programs do strange things and cause strange problems.

Just my thoughts.
