Is onboard NIC typically sensitive to overclocking?

I have an i7/860 system that's recently been having some internet connectivity and speed issues. Sometimes it works great but other times the internet drops down to an incredibly slow speed, or drops out altogether. This is using a Realtek onboard network chip and an ambit "coaster" cable modem. The problems seem to have gotten worse when i tried a very slight overclock by increasing bclk from 133 to 138. I can't imagine the overclock causing a networking issue, but has anyone else experienced problems with onboard network gear when overclocking?

The unstable condition caused by the overclock can cause your mobo bios to get hosed which will require you to clear the cmos to get everything working again. I've seen the chipset go into an unstable state on many occasion when attempting an overclock but clearing the cmos usually brings it right back.
