So in another thread I posted a nice man said that my drive is dying and needs to be replaced. Fair enough. He then linked 2 SSD's and 2 HDD's telling me to use one SSD for windows and programs and the other for data. My question is are these compatible with my current hardware? And if so could I install them myself easily? Thank you
Hello PYKB mate I looked at the links and the first SSD link didn't open but the second did and all I can say is as long as you buy a good brand SSD and spinner then it doesn't make that much difference.
Cheapest doesn't necessarily mean best either
Peronally I like Samsung, Crucial, and SanDisk for the SSD and Seagate for a spinner. Now the choice is yours of course and I know there will be others who say different to me but I would go for a Samsung 850 EVO of 250GB and a Seagate spinner of whatever size you want depends On how uch data you aim at saving there and I think 1TB would be ample for the average user.
To install I suggest you have a look at some Yuotubes on installing new hard drives it really is simple as long as you are careful re static electricity
There is a tutorial somewhere here on how to use the SSD for the OS and a spinner for the data but I cannot put my finger on it right away. and this is another must if you take my advice Optimize Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

I just ordered the SSD & the HDD as well as a 2.5 to 3.5" just in case. It should take 5-7 business days for the stuff to arrive because I chose poor man delivery. Thanks again for your help I'll let you know when the item arrived. Cheers
These are the two I bought from the list you suggested. I'm really anxious to get them and get my computer running again. I can't thank you guys enough.
When installing Win 7 leave only the SSD attached to the MB. After installation of after entering Audit mode (Kari tutorial), shut down the computer and attach the HDD.
Glad you got sorted now you will really sea difference and once you get settled in take a look at this USING OPTIMISE TUTORIAL Just a little something that will make your machine a little faster and more efficient is this Optimize Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums It is my bible when installing an OS on my machines and also when I am fixing friends and family machines too. Now if you go through it slowly you will find lots of tweaks and they are all really thoroughly done by the authour Brink a fellow who is in my mind brilliant and if you need to ask questions he is just the most obliging person around. The other thing is that you may lose some of the "bling" such as transparency (you don't have to I find it unnecessary) and all the tweaks are reversible. If you do get stuck just post back in that tutorial and you will get help. Another bonus using this tutorial is that it helps you find your way around your machine and Windows 7! Just one tip I would say you start with is do this Registry - Backup and Restore - Windows 7 Help Forums do this and it will save you a lot of grief if you are ever doing things in the registry and even if you don't it is a good back up to have if your system ever gets corrupted. Good luck with Newegg! They just pulled a 'Bait N Switch' on me that really ticked me off.
I cancelled the sale and unsubscribed from their daily ad sheet.
I got an email from someone in customer support and I told her exactly what I thought of the sales practices of her company. I'd close my account there if I could find out how! Grrrrr!
