Hi,

I am building a PC and right now I'm deciding on a graphics card. I think that I want to go with the Sapphire Radeon R9 280x Vapor-X Tri-X OC. I will be using the card mostly for Planetside 2 and Minecraft with shaders. I know that Minecraft is a CPU intensive game, and I will be going with an i7 4790 processor. For Planetside 2, I'd like to use the Ultra settings at about ~60 FPS. I'd like to run Minecraft with shaders at about ~80 FPS. Are these parts a wise choice for what I want to do?

Thanks

You want to team up an AMD card with an Intel cpu ?

Go with nVidia :)

I recommend EVGA :D

The 280x is a HD7970 Rebranded but as add ram says you could go with a GTX 970G1 or a GTX 970 and it will be balls out better 290x which is around the same price range

Thanks for all the replies. Personally, I've always liked Radeon cards. Right now I have an Intel i5 with a Radeon r7 260x and its pretty good. Short of buying a Nvidia card, is the R9 280X good for what I am doing?

Thanks

I was going on the info of what he was building, not what he was already using.

I would also consider getting the 4790K, the price difference is minimal.

Yes I am purchasing the card for a new build. I was just saying that right now I have an intel CPU and an AMD GPU. Btw, I don't need the 4790k because I don't overclock my CPU's. :)

I would get the 290x but I just don't have the money for it. With Amazon, I got a lot of the price off of the 280x. I can't say the same for the 290x, so I really can't afford it. Thanks though.

With the 4790K there`s no need to OC it, out of the box it clocks at 4 GHz and Turbos up to 4.4

For $10 more, I wouldn`t think twice about it.

What is the price of the 4790 there ?

Oh it is a $10 difference. Ok I guess I will go with that then. Maybe when I first checked it, it was on sale or something I don't know.
