Is this a good graphics card?

what motherboard have you got. and what specific hd5670 are you after. pci-e 2.1 cards can fit into pci-e 2.0 slots (not sure if it'll work in pci-e 1 however).

is this your setup?

Acer Aspire AM3400-E2212 AMD Athlon II X4 635 4GB 1TB DVDRW Windows 7 Home Premium Desktop - Acer - PT.SE002.001

Yep, it's exactly the one I have, its not very good for gaming though.

That motherboard has:-

  • PCI Express® 2.0 x16 slot - This is the socket you'll need.
  • Two PCI Express® 2.0 x1 slots - not sure about this
  • PCI™ v2.3 (5 V) slot - or this one
But the PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot is the one you'll use for a new graphics card.

PLEASE NOTE: if there is a chance that the link i posted above is wrong then ignore what i have s

It looks like most hd 5670 cards are either pci-e 2.0 or 2.1. 2.1 cards will fit and work in a 2.0 socket but it'll downgrade to a 2.0 card. Please could you post a link to your choice of 5670

I am going to try out what Solarstarshines picked out for me.

You won't be disapointed and in future you could save more money get a second card better PSU and go crossfire with a new board of course but you should be good for a long while with what you have

With a mild overclock you will have almost 7850 performance

Its been having problems, in game, where it laggs, and the display driver keeps crashing. Even with lower graphics. I have tried venting it from over heating, and updated my drivers. Or it could just be the 300W power supply.

Im pretty sure your card is just had it's glory and it can't handle the new stuff if it was a 4870 X2 then you would still have a chance ,It's time for a upgrade and PSU lagging can come from the psu and the card PSU going bad or card just can't hang period

Yeah, I'll just upgrade my graphics and PSU, so it could run better, I think its dying.

I wasn't sure that the 7750 was enough of an upgrade to be worthwhile, but I guess that it may be:

AnandTech - Bench - GPU12

If you can get a factory overclocked card like this one:

AMD Radeon

without too much of a price premium, go for it.

(the link is to a comparison with a 6670, but I believe that a 5670 and a 6670 are nearly the same).

Sorry, I don't understand your point.

I thought that the 5670 and 6670 were very similar. The benches that you post pretty much bear that out. (The 6670 is a bit better, but not much.)

The 7750 is a different story. It's certainly a great card for its price.

Am I an unclear writer, or was there a reading comprehension problem?

Thanks, is this at all good, since i never bought or heard of XFX.
But there is another ASUS one http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/prod...spx?path=990944ca0f0a46c92f538d9ae573cfd5en02. Its almost the same one that you picked out, but its a 6000 series.
I have checked out Neweggs reviews on both these cards, and I can't decided which one is best.

An alternate suggestion for the power supply:

Corsair 500W PC Power Supply (CMPSU-500CXV2) : Power Supplies - Future Shop

It's rated at 34A at +12V (single rail), which is greater than the sum of the two 12V rails (32A) on the Cooler Master unit. It's a few dollars cheaper as well. (Both it and the CM one are Web only, by the way.)

The 7750 is a better card than the 6670 one. Perhaps more than $26 better. A 6670 isn't (IMHO) a significant upgrade over a 5670, but it at least wouldn't be a step backwards as a repair replacement.

That power supply is ok should put out good voltage as well i have a 700w extreme

Thanks, is this at all good, since i never bought or heard of XFX.
But there is another ASUS one ASUS Radeon HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E Video Card : Video Cards - Future Shop.

Very true ,By the Bobkn I wasn't trying to offend you with that statement i just know it would be alot better to think ahead for future upgrades is all and giving the Op a chance to have something longer then a year

so should I just stick with this XFX AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB DDR3 PCI-E Video Card : Video Cards - Future Shop and get the cheaper PSU. Is this any good? http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/prod...spx?path=a5657e49ea7b6098834a72e3cd0018f2en02

Well it is up to you at this point you showed a 7750 for 114 which a extra 20 dollars for the performance isnt bad

I gave you the varibles of what would be faster but if budget prevails then go with the 6670

but the extra 26 bucks to upgrade to a better card Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) vs Radeon HD 7750 – Performance Comparison Benchmarks @ Hardware Compare

Take a look at this and you decide if the extra 26 bucks is worth it I would say it is

Ok thanks I'll just get the 7750.

No offense taken. I'm compulsive, rather than sensitive.

I agree with going large on the PSU. My PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 has been with me since early 2008. It was expensive then ($149). I'd have to think about how many different systems it has lived in since then. (If I can't replace the motherboard at least once a year, I pine away.)

Staying within a budget and buying stuff good enough to carry forward through future upgrades tend to be conflicting requirements. The main thing is to avoid getting such a crap PSU that it goes up in an Irwin Allen production (60s/70s reference) and takes everything else with it.
