Is there a fake Malwarebytes window?

There's a small window in the bottom right-hand part of my screen (not on the action center flag) which bears the Malwarebytes logo and a red-highlighted message that reads, "Scan Complete - Malware Detected. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has detected one or more threats. Click here to view results."

I went to my Microsoft security center that shows no problems. I pulled up my Malwarebytes site that showed one threat, which I got rid of. But that did NOT make the window in the bottom right-hand part of my screen disappear. Having been burned by imposters in the spot before, I am leery of clicking on it.

What should I do? Besides overreacting.

I should've know about that page you linked me up to. I haven't done my homework. I've had so many malware issues in the past that I just sort of freak-out by default. Is there computer PTSD?

I had no idea that page existed either till I read your 1st post and curiosity got the best of me. There is certainly no shame in learning. I am so glad that you are learning from your past malware infection experiences. I wish that everyone was as cautious as you.

NOTE: Most software does have an online manual, especially security software. If you are ever unsure about a prompt, look to those first to make sure it is what you are seeing. Another option is using task manager application tab when the prompt/popup appears. It will usually indicate what program it is giving the message/notification. Unless its a system tray notification, in which case hovering over the tray icon indicates what program it is.
