Is there a such thing as Sata III pass through brackets?

I am planning on purchasing this: Amazon.com: Mediasonic ProBox HF2-SU3S2 4 Bay 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure - USB 3.0 & eSATA, Support SATA 3 6.0Gbps hard drive transfer rate: Electronics

I only found one: Amazon.com: StarTech.com 2 Port SATA to eSATA Plate Adapter (ESATAPLT2M): Computers & Accessories

However, it's poorly rated, and reviews say it's cheap and breaks easily.

I looked into the PCI sata cards; however, I would think that's pointless because I have so many Sata ports on my mobo that it's ridiculous.

I also thought about this: Amazon.com: CoolGear® Internal to External eSATA 4 Port PCI Bracket: Computers & Accessories

But the description says that it's only designed for Sata II speeds. One review says it can operate at Sata 3 speeds, but I'm really skeptical given that the manufacturer says the pass-through can only do Satas II speeds.

Any suggestions? I mean, I'm not really sure why they even make Enclosures with esata ports if there isn't an abundance of Sata 3 passthrough connectors!

I know the ones that use PCI express lanes can slow things down, and again, I don't see why I would need that when I have tons of Sata ports on my mobo?

If you want to use your internal sata ports on the z97 in your specs (i'm guessing that's what you want) then get this and just plug it from the plate to your internal sata conector. Sata 2 and 3 use the same cable. It's sata express that uses a new cable. Amazon.com: Monoprice 107638 2 Port Internal SATA to eSATA Bracket (107638): Computers & Accessories

So, are you saying that a Sata II bracket will provide Sata III speeds when connected to my Sata III ports, although it says it's not designed as such?

No problem, yeah if there is even a difference it's one that does not factor into what we can perceive anyways. E-stata is just sata with a different shaped connecter for external use that's all. I used to use that very bracket with no issues.

All except very, very old and very cheap cables are able to run at SATA III speeds, even if they are advertised to be only SATA II. Most cables rated at SATA III were originally sold as SATA II; the only difference was the change in marketing. HDDS haven't saturated SATA II speeds yet (and it's unlikely they ever will) so it really wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Hi,
I don't see a whole lot of difference
esata is for machines that may not have usb3 ports to use the usb3 devices but do have a esata port.

The other esata cards just add that capability to older machines that have neither usb3 or esata ports thus adding the card gives them an option to use the device ;)

Using usb3.1 port with a usb3 device is about as good as it gets if the device likes it
Otherwise usb3 to usb3 as that is the way it's designed.

Thanks thrash. I'm really sorry. I wasn't trying to give any of you awesome gurus a hard time, I was just really confused about esata + usb 3.0 because it seems that on paper, although sata 3 is supposed to be faster.... more and more external devices are shipping with usb 3.0 and not esata..... but each each technology keeps overtaking the other with advancements.... but again... still.... more devices are shipping with USB 3.0. It's frustrating.

My new x99 board has no esata ports it has as yours usb3 and 1 usb3.1

I wouldn't worry about the esata stuff use the new technology as you already are using usb 3.1 as long as the manufacture of the device says there's no problems you're set to go as fast as possible and I doubt adding an esata card is going to improve on that

usb3.1 built into the board without cables except of the devices is likely to be faster same goes for usb3.

If the device has an option for a high speed cable = gold tipped might be as good as it gets ?
