Is there a way to connect a PC Tower wirelessly to a PC Monitor

Hi guys, was having a discussion today at work about how I would much rather have a PC tower than a laptop, and it got me thinking, is there a way send a wireless video signal from a PC Tower to a PC Monitor?

You can send HDMI over wireless. Some reviews of wireless HDMI transmitters here.

As note, you can do this, but not sure you ever should, except maybe for an information terminal where any delay between input (you clicking on a program's icon, for example) and display (you seeing the program open). Simple streaming of video from a BluRay should be fine (if all other factors are good).

A better option, IMO, is to have the computer near the monitor to allow for a cable hookup, then use wireless keyboard and mouse for user input.

I agree with the post above.

I have my laptop connected to my AVR via HDMI, AVR connected to my TV and use a wireless keyboard/mouse. It allows me to relax on the couch and use my large TV as a PC monitor. You should not need a Desktop unless your laptop does not have an HDMI connection, or you are looking to upgrade your PC experience.

I would hate to sit on the sofa to do my computing, I have a desk for that. I would like to send my HDMI signal wirelessly to my TV for gaming though.

The best solution is to have a desk computer for regular computing tasks, and a HTPC (home theater PC) for a PC connected to a big screen TV.

From what? Do you have your computer sitting next to you on your sofa? Or is it near the TV/monitor? And then where is your mouse and keyboard connected? Via wires to the computer sitting on your sofa?

Plus, understand HDMI cables carry VERY COMPLEX and MASSIVE amounts of data at very high speeds (read: HUGE amounts of bandwidth). This includes high definition video in high resolutions with rapid refresh rates, plus 6 discrete channels of high fidelity audio, plus HDMI control data on top of that. The sophistication and complexity of both the transmitter and receiver radio circuitry is immense.

Not so with a wireless keyboard and mouse that need only deal with tiny amounts of slow speed data. So using a wireless keyboard and mouse while sitting across the room is the best solution, by far.

If you were a road warrior and needed this type connection to a projector or large monitor during a presentations, then something like this would make sense. But in your own home, in a fixed (not mobile) environment, a wireless keyboard and mouse make better sense.

You've lost me. My PC, monitor, keyboard and mouse is set up on my computer desk. I do all of my computing and gaming at my computer desk. But for games that I can use my Xbox wireless controller on I'd like to use Steam's Big Picture with the output on my TV instead of my monitor but I don't want a 15m HDMI cable running around the lounge.

That's a horse of a different color as streaming is done through the network.

But for games that I can use my Xbox wireless controller on I'd like to use Steam's Big Picture with the output on my TV instead of my monitor but I don't want a 15m HDMI cable running around the lounge.

Okay. Now I understand. And in that case, the adapter I linked to above might work.
