Is there a way to edit the time in DATE TAKEN field?

I can't seem to edit the time but I can change the date on images, is there a work around?

I have never done it on purpose, so it probably would become contrary and not work, but when I have copy/pasted a file from one partition to another, it seems to redate the files to that date and time. Of course, if you wanted some other date/time, that wouldn't help at all.

EDIT: Another way that you might be able to do it, if it is a text file. Open it in an editor and then save it. Again, this will just redate the file to the current time/date. This might work for other file types, if they can be opened in some kind of editor, but I haven't tested it.

EDIT: I failed to note that your question was about image files. I just repeated the same process opening, then saving with Irfanview and it had the same result.

I think the OP is referring to the EXIF information in the images.

This is kind of a weird method, but this little app will allow you to run any program, making it thinking it is running on any specified date. Run a program through it, then open up your desired file in that program (ie Word) and then re-save it. RunAsDate - Run a program with the specified date/time

You can change the date and time taken of photos and videos using Windows Live Photo Gallery
Open the file in the gallery, right click on it and click change time taken. You can also do it for multiple files.

you don't actually need any extra software to change the 'date taken' info.

right-click on photo in windows explorer >> properties >> details >> move mouse over the date taken and you can edit it there.

you can even select multiple pictures and batch-edit the date if you want to.

Hello! I am aware of this procedure, but this only changes the date taken, not the time. I tried changing the time this way and I couldn't do it.

Edit Time Stamp Of Photos

Helency got it mostly correct here. Open the file in the gallery, but do not right click the image. This brings you to the same edit properties screen that doesn't let you change the time. Instead, click the button in the upper left corner 'edit, organize, or share'. This will bring you to a new screen, which will hopefully already the file location of the photo you want to edit already open. If not, you can use the scroll pane on the left to find the file folder. Once you have that folder open, use the main pane to find the photo. Hover over it and check the box that appears on the upper left corner of the thumbnail image. Once you have done that, click on the 'edit' tab at the top of the screen. The 'adjust time' option is on the bottom of the third column of options. From there it is easy to change the time.

PS for Microsoft - This is a bass ackward and horrible way to have to change the time, especially since the time stamp is used to organize photos in folders. We ought to be able to change the time in the properties screen that pops up when we right click an image. I had to expend my monthly allowance of screaming obscenities trying to figure out how to do something as simple and fundamental as changing the time on my photos. Please change this issue and lower your customers blood pressure. Thank you.

Another easy way to change the date and time of photos is to use the free Picasa program from Google. After installing Picasa, right click on the photo file you wish to edit and select "Open with", and select Picasa Photo Viewer. Right click on the opened photo and select "Edit in Picasa". Then click on Tools | Adjust Date and Time...

Make the date/time change, then click ok and close Picasa.
