Is there a Windows 7 that uses >100mb RAM and touchscreens still work?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a Windows 7 copy (Official or Unofficial) that uses >100mb of RAM with keeps services critical to allowing touchscreens to work on? (Tiny 7 does not work with touchscreens and contains viruses).

Thanks

I know there's a link for Windows 7 here someone, but I don't know where so someone will have to post it. But you can use Windows Starter and then further strip it down with NTlite. Whether that allows it to run on very little RAM may be subjective. Your > sign means more than. I think you meant < which would be less than 100 MB because Windows 7 already can use more than 100 lousy MB. In fact, it needs at least 2 GB. Windows XP on the other hand could run on as little as 128 MB of RAM. Probably could try 64 MB in XP, but that'll be very limited.

So Microsoft says you need at least 1 GB. That's the very, very bare minimum. As I said, 2 GB will work fine, and fine for for small home and office Apping. Like Internet surfing or printing, etc. I'm thinking if you cut most of the fluff from Starter with NTLite, go to Black Viper's website here and disable all unnecessary services, and perhaps increase the pagefile, you might be able to get by on 512 GB of ram. I highly, highly doubt you'll be able to run 7 in 100 MB of RAM, The OS its self would fill that RAM space just on boot. If someone strips the living crap out of 7 you pretty much have XP or Puppy Linux at that point. Which means you'd be better of with said XP or Puppy Linux. All depends on what you're trying to do.

And now that I think of it, there is another version of Windows 7 meant for kiosks, ATMs, point of sale, etc that may or may not use less than 1 GB of RAM. But that's another ball game...

Hi,

Thread title written on no-sleep :sleepy: Meant <100mb .

I do not have the technical knowledge to be stripping down an ISO to a level which would chance using less than 100mb of RAM. However I will certainly be disabling some of the services listed on the Black Viper website in my currently installed Windows 7 :)

As for XP, I have unheard of problems with it on my device and would rather avoid it as such. Linux does not work - full stop end-of ):

The version of 7 you mean might be Windows 7 Embedded POS Edition. I have tried this already and the RAM usage is that of a full blown Windows copy, completely maxes out 512mb and leaves the system unusable. There is Windows Embedded Standard 7, but from looking at it, the RAM usage is no less than that of 7 Starter. Lastly would be Windows Embedded Compact which is not meant for home computers, but stuff more like PDAs.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but there's just no way you're getting Windows 7 to use less than 100 MB of RAM.
