Microsoft has delivered four developer previews of Internet Explorer (IE) 9 so far, but has yet to show off the new interface for its next-generation browser. That is expected to happen on September 15, during Microsoft’s beta launch event in San Francisco.
But maybe users won’t have to wait until then to get a glimpse of what’s coming. Microsoft Russia’s press site, on August 25, posted information and a photo that seem to be connected to the coming IE 9 beta. (The site has since pulled their post, but I grabbed the information and screen shot in the nick of time.)
more at source..

Yes but the question that is on everyone's lip is:

WILL ADOBE ACTUALLY BOTHER THEIR ARSE AND CREATE A 64 BIT FLASH PLAYER?

Really? Tabs next to the address bar? :sarc: I have like 2-3 dozen tabs open right now, can you imagine trying to navigate through it with that little space??

Simple yes. Finished - no. One flaw, that large blu~ish, flock looking, Back button, is slightly underneath the bar underneath it. A very small portion of the button is blocked by it! Rawr! :P That probably doesn't make much sense xD Sorry

Yeah, simple clean and using as little space as possible a huge plus. Course er... My IE8 is that way right now!BUT, as BCXtreme pointed out, having the tabs on the same level as the address bar won't fly well (Well unless you have IE maximised on a 1920 wide montior :D)

To quote Mr Horse, from the Ren and Stimpy show, "No Sir, I dont like it".
I concur with the comments regarding the tabs next to the address bar. I too use at least half a dozen to a dozen tabs at any one time.
So to have a browser maximised at 1920, not only would you need a second monitor to apply your 'web based research' but all your forums would look out of whack because they were written for compatibility with 800 reso screens.

I have been testing the IE 9.0 "Preview" or "Test Drive" and so far it's OK...needs work...the version I have does not have navigation buttons (back and forth) so it kinda sux. No Address bar so you have to press "CTRL + O" to be able to enter in address you want to visit...etc. Still to early to decide...

Thanks Dobhar,

Its on the DL now. Will give a more informed opinion soon...

Edit: You're right. No buttons. No address bar. No internet options.
Ctrl+O brings up what looks like a simple msgbox to enter the website you want to go to. It doesnt (yet) support the ctrl+enter suffix/prefix ammendments.
Nor support history or autocomplete.

It basically looks like a IE in kiosk mode, but in a window instead.

Still. I'l play around with it for a while...

LOLOLOL...was trying to use this "Preview" version of IE 9.0 to post...got about 90% complete with my write up then attached a pic...took a look at the pic but after it opened there was no back button to navigate back to the post...had to close the window...LOLOLOL

They need to add navigation buttons or allow you to use your keyboard to navigate using ALT+Left arrow key & ALT+Right arrow key. You are correct xarden that it runs similar to Kiosk Mode.

Anyways posted a screeny...

I do not see the need to rush into any conclusions, when the beta comes out, we'll see what kind of options we will have to alter the interface (navbar, bookmarks, tabs etc.)

This "concern" of having tabs right next to the address bar doesn't seem like a big thing to me, as I think that Microsoft can't be really that stupid as to leave the interface in this state.

Sometimes things in the "interest of simplicity" can get so "Dumbed down" that it is actually impossible to make decent use of the standard features any more.

For instance I can't imagine myself EVER using the much touted "tear strips" or Side by side stuff -- it's a BROWSER for heaven's sake --but what I DO use is things like EXCEL being able to grab tabular data from the web such as dynamic Stock Market quotes etc.

Basically a DECENT HISTORY bar showing the actual sites I've visited in the last xxx days that REALLY WORKS by just double clicking on the site in question rather than some high level site and sorted in some sort of TIME or CONTENT sequence IMO would be much more useful than looking at bits of 4 or 5 different websites chopped up into tiny rectangles over your screen.

PLEASE software developers GET THE basic FUNCTIONALITY TO WORK PERFECTLY BEFORE ADDING BELLS AND WHISTLES.

Finally isn't it time to kill off stuff that requires ACTIVE-X to work before being able to access the content or even the site itself.

Cheers
jimbo

The IE 9 Preview is a preview of the rendering engine and Javascript engine. Not a preview of a working full feature browser. Just FYI. It is meant to give web developers an early look at whats coming and get bugs fixed in the rendering (html, css, js parsing) before released.

I find it hard to believe that so many people are still using the back button when 5 button mice are so cheap.

Once you use a 5 button mouse then you'll be wondering why anyone would be using the antiquated back button. I have had my back button removed from browser for several years now. It is so annoying and ridiculous when I have to work on a friends pc and they have a regular mouse.

I have bought a few early Christmas present five button mice for friends since they are like...well, I don't mind....and after a short time, they all can't believe how hard headed they have been and are taking other advice more seriously.

Believe me, you'll never go back.
