is upgrading to 4 gig ram worth it?

currently im using a 2gig ram (1.74 usable).
and i just wanted to reduce the lag on my games.

but my question is.
how to i upgrade the ram on my computer (compaq cq62 215dx)
is 4 gig worth it?
should i install 3 gig instead?
CAN i install 3 gig?

i remember wanting to say something else but i cant think of it right now, so i will edit it in later.

Hi Aidan

Laptops are somewhat harder than desktops. If you are handy they still can be done. Go to the computer mfr and find the instructions for taking apart your lappy.

Make sure you aren't under warranty for this will void it.

Mine took me about 15 mins. 4 gigs are worth it but because you are 32bit you will only be able to use ~ 3.25 gigs.

But in your case 3 GBs may make sense - if you can fit them.

buying ram from best buy is a mistake first off i would order it off the web if possible and geek squad well there just a bunch of people with paper that say's they know what thiere doing ha

If you look around the employees that sell have no idea on thiere own product now if you really want help to work on it ask someone you can trust that would have a little more depth then you

If you trully need someone to do it for you i suggest looking for a legit shop owner none mainstream which he /or she would be more likly to charge you less

any big boy company like best buy would choke your wallet out before they solve the real problem

Example my cousin paid a arm and a leg for a package system the only real value part they gave him was a audigy sound card other then that it was a mess whole system was like 2000.00 and it ran like a p2 not like a p4

You can get much higher quality RAM ordering from somewhere like Newegg or TigerDirect and installing it yourself for the price Bestbuy charges.

I agree with getting the ram and doing it yourself. However, the RAM might not be the lag issue on the game...it might be the video card. Which are often not changeable on a laptop...so you might be stuck with the lag.

If you are going to upgrade, I wouldn't go from 2 to 3. I would go to at least 4.

You can do this ! If I can talk a girlfriend through the installation who had never opened her laptop computer only to feel so empowered that she ordered ram for her desktop and installed that, you can do this ! The challenge is ordering the correct ram the install is a breeze. I would suspect that the laptop only has room for two ram modules and you will be removing two 1gig modules and replacing them with two 2 gig modules. There are two little locking tabs that once spread the ram module will tilt up and present it's self and once removed access to the the lower module is available, just repeat. You'll just install the ram by lowering it into those clips until they click home. Screw the plastic cover on the bottom of the laptop in place and turn the system on and it will see the new ram and your basically off to the races.

Yea don't pay for something you can easily do yourself
I mean would you pay someone to survive in the jungle or would you do it yourself lol just being honest these people make alot of money off of people who could just take some time and do it themselves

Also the plus side would be not having to wait a few days till they decide to open it up it will take you under 15 minutes to perform what they'll do in days
