Is windows 7 64bit better for gaming

I was tld that 64bit is better for gaming i have 32bit at the moment but have 4gig of ram just wanted to know is worth updating and would i get better performance.

Yes and no. It depends on the components. what computer, video card, etc. In gerneral 64 bit will be a little better for gaming, but it is also more prone to BSOD's, and have more driver issues.

I found that it is really bad for it as i tryed it for a day and all temps went up by nearly 10c and the game play and use of the pc ran like 32bit so i went back to 32bit as its alot better.

I use mine for gaming, but I never tested the computer with anything but Win 7 64-bit so I can't compare it to anything. Subjectively, it seems okay. I have the occasional random restart (once per month... too infrequent to replicate), but that could be a hardware issue. For the most part, it's been fine with Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead 2. One time it restarted while no game was running.

Apart from the fact that some games run only on 32bit OS, I think the only significant advantage is the extra memory available with 64bit OS.
I'm playing some games on W7 64bit, and it runs perfectly fine. However, some older games I had to set aside, becuase they would not install on my system (not even in compatibility mode).

Sure you're not confusing "Windows 7" for "Vista?"

I run Win 7x64 with no issues.

Same here. x64 with about 20 newer games installed. Only issues i've had are by user error

x64's drivers are maturing nicely. There isn't a lot of 64 bit games yet to take advantage of the 4gb+ memory but they'll be here. Give it time.

For what it's worth, I played Crysis Warhead on both x86 and x64 machines with the exact same specs and noticed no difference in performance at all.

I run both vista Ultimate x64 + Win 7 Ultimate x64 w/o a single glitch.

My rig is purely for Gaming but I am sure I can pretty much run everything that a x32 system could at this moment... I have yet to miss on a 64 driver.

I noticed that i had a decrease in FPS on 64 bit OS and it makes the CPU heat up by more than 5C on 64 which is not good for gaming as this will put it under more strees making it work hotter and louder when being used for long periodes of time which i get fed up with

I don't see really much of a difference I suppose just a few extra fps will no doubt be available, but seriously I don't see the big fuss about 64 bit computing.
