Hello,

I have a very odd situation i wasnt expecting and im having issues troubleshooting.

I have a Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3 motherboard

I have a build computer so its not branded and has for the most part worked fine until the other night. I have Windows 7 installed on a mechanical 1 TB WD HDD. After getting this set up i threw in my old harddrive with Vista on it for data.

So essentially prior to yesterday i had a perfectly bootable selection of either Win7 or Vista at startup, both worked fine. I purchased a Vector SSD and attached it a few weeks ago but never formatted or installed anything on it. I finally decided to try to throw Win7 on it and make it what my main OS.

I did the windows install process, did the first reboot, entered the computer name, and it got to the welcome screen, but quickly went from preparing desktop to shutting down. After shutdown every instance (not just the new SSD one) doesn't even full load the spinning windows logo before restarting my system.

When i try recovery and try /RebuildBcd or /scan OS it shows 0 OS's. Fixing the MBR works (but doesnt resolve the issue), and fixboot comes up saying that it wont work because the correct drivers dont exist for the operation on the found OS.

I even tried completely removing the SSD and disabling the port in my BIOS, but my old instance of Windows 7 which i didnt even touch is still no longer able to boot. Any ideas!?

AddRam put the finger on it. You have to physically disconnect all other drives when you install on the SSD.

What seems to have happened in your case is a failed installation which corrupted the bootmgr on the HDD. That can be fixed but a new installation on the SSD is easier.

Whatever caused it to shutdown messed up everything, windows 7 can never be interrupted during an install or when it is rebooting during updates. You musn`t touch it, no matter how long it takes to re boot.

Thanks a ton AddRam i really appreciate the response, im going to try to do this tommorow. Il strip literally everything else out but the SSD for now. I was unaware it would have this effect. I was hoping i could fresh install then deal with the old volumes and windows installations after.

You don`t have to remove anything, just unplug the power cables going to the hard drives. And make sure the ssd is connected to the 1st sata 6 Gbps port on the motherboard.
