Hey All,

I have had an issue with my Desktop PC, The Desktop WORKS with Direct Lan Cable to Modem, but I have gotten a Switch and placed it in between Modem and Desktop and the network Adapter see's no connection, I have tried 2 different routers and a switch and all the same issue

I also have a PS4 & 360 connected to switch which work, but the PC does not, I have swapped connections and tested with my Laptop and it works fine

anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Thanks;

You should always be able to get an internet connection by going from modem to computer.

You should always be able to get an internet connection by going from modem to router to x number of computers,
or by going from modem to router to x number of switches to x number of computers.

But if you go from modem to switch to x number of computers, you won't be able to get an internet connection, because a switch doesn't have DHCP capability. (It can't issue "internal" IP addresses.)

Disconnect the router and the switches, do a reset on your router, then plug the router directly into the modem. Once you have done that, you should be able to connect either switches or computers directly into the router, and if you connected switches, you can connect computers to the switches.

Keep in mind that, although the switches will work in the above configuration, the use of switches can slow things down, because it can make your network traffic flow less efficient.

Of course, all wireless connections will happen through the router; but that doesn't have any impact on the current discussion.

Is it a switch or a hub and if it's a switch is it a dumb one? If the switch is 10 met that can give problems
