Problem with my cousins network again. The modem finally called it quits. He was told by AT&T to buy a new one and he bought a Netgear DM111PSP. It wouldn't work. I went there and after 1/2 hour it's working (I think he had the user name incorrect).

The internet works fine when the computer is connected directly to the modem. But when I wire in the router (Linksys E2500) he has no internet access.

Both had an IP of 192.168.0.1
I changed the router to be 192.168.0.2
Still no internet access.

Some IP configuration may be helpful to see what is being set on the client side.

Can the client device ping the router?

Is the router receiving a valid public IP address from the connection to the internet (going through the modem)?

There may be a possible IP conflict as well depending on how the modem is setup... A possible test could be to change the LAN subnet to a different one. Maybe 10.1.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0? Remember to change the DHCP scope accordingly.

Many Thanks,
Josh :)

You will need to turn off DHCP on the secondary router in this case. This will eventually allow the secondary router to pick up an IP in the correct subnet from the first router. Although if the Netgear is only a modem this shouldn't be required but the 192.168.0.1 IP indicates that it is DHCP capable.

This setup page from Netgear may be helpful.

If the modem is a modem/router then you might try plugging into the Linksys routers LAN port rather than the WAN port.
