I have installed my windows 7 about 4 months ago, its activated and working fine until about 5 days ago when i received a message telling me my windows isn't genuine, how can that be?

I have installed it using my Windows 7 CD
I have activated it with my serial key or activation key or whatever its called

I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing, but I've seen a command or something on the forum that opens up that window...

Anyway, I keep receiving this error:

how can i fix it? I live in Israel so calling Microsoft is VERY expensive and will be my last option.

Thanks A lot for any replies!

Hi.

If you don't have the option for phone activation, you'll need to ring them to sort it out, which is a hassle, but you shouldn't have any problems if you have a legit version.

What do you mean by Phone Activation? Is there any difference between that and calling them?

What do you mean by Phone Activation?
You should have the option to activate by phone, where your OS would give you a code, which you then input to the automated phone centre, and then you would input the code you're given on your computer to activate your Windows.

As you don't have that option, you'll have to ring and speak to a real person. Where did you get your Windows from?

I have never had over a two minute wait the three times I have had to activate via a live person on the phone.

I got lost with all the links but I entered Slui.exe 4 and chose Israel, then I entered the 6 numbers 8 times(there were 9 sets but only 8 slots to type them in..) and it told me Activation successful, I have seen that "Activation Successful" window before but I was still getting those "this computer is not running genuine windows" windows, anyway, hope its fixed now...

By the way, sorry if I'm double posting...

Carl, I called them and it was an automated phone line but it told me they couldn't activate and that I might have been a victim to pirating but when i entered those codes on my PC it worked... strange... maybe i mis-typed a number on the phone

I just got a Not Genuine message on my XP install, of course I was moving it from my dead P4 motherboard to a Core 2 Duo. Since the hardware had changed I had to call and go through reactivation automated voice.

But even after I read them the numbers and entered the ones I was given, I still showed the Not Genuine message. It may have gone away after a reboot, but I clicked on the Not Genuine star in the system tray and it went online to verify and removed the message. Yours may need to go through an update or a software check to verify.

I do not believe the Not Genuine message is necessarily associated with activation.

Glad it worked for you. It did not work for my initial activation of Seven; but it worked like a charm with the live person. I. too, may have mistyped the numbers initially. With my typing skills - or lack thereof - that is a distinct possibility. :D

Description: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, OEM_SLP channel

as based on the picture you posted..

"Original Equipment Manufacturer - System Lock Pre-install"
this is supposed to be pre-installed and pre activated
no activation is required for this software

did you purchased this windows 7 product separately or was this pre-installed by the technician?
If this computer has a brand, contact the manufacturer.
If this is a custom built computer..i would guess they (technician) used a windows 7 loader to use the master SLP code for activation and was caught by microsoft.

hope it helps

A google search of the partial product key might just support that.

yes, the computer is custom built and I did have a technician install it on my computer, so you are saying it is pirated? f..k

then i have a different question, If I re-install the OS(windows 7) can i keep my files? and make it genuine?
I did not watch the technician install windows 7 so he might have done something naughty there...

I have the CD and the serial....

Doesn't sound too good. Did you google the partial product key in the image you posted? If you have the same key that you see in the results then I'm afraid it's going to be, yes.

I would back up all your files A.S.A.P! But I wouldn't reinstall the copy you have because you just can't determine where it came from, so you would be better of buying a legal copy, which will give you peace of mind as you will know just where it came from.

I have the CD and the serial....
Well if you paid money for it, and your key is the same as the one found by googling it, it's pretty much worthless and you have been ripped off, plus the copy you own could be a torrent that has be tampered with, so you run the risk of having key loggers and allsorts embedded in it, so I'd stick it in the bin if I were you, and be looking to get my money back.
