Hello,

I did a clean Win 7 Pro x64 install with no previous version of iTunes. When I try to install iTunes64setup it tells me

The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.

Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.

I have not synced my 5G Nano yet. I have tried to install through cmd as Admin and I still get the same message. Is there an incompatibility issue known of with VLC and iTunes or Sony and iTunes?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Not too familiar with Itunes, but is it 64 compatible?

Hello,

I once had the same problem. It happens when you try to install iTunes while any other programs are running. You can retry installing after closing the others.

Hi Kitkatable, Welcome to SF,

You could try something that might work

1, Remove i-Tunes(If you see in Program Features), Quick time, Apple software update, Apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support (I would recommend in the same order)
2, Run Windows Installer Clean up to make sure everything is completely removed
3, Then enable the Build-in Administrator
4, Reboot the system then Login under Administrator account
5, Download the i-Tunes for 64-Bit edition iTunes 9.0.2 for Windows (64 bit)
6, Then try to install it and check

Also it's worth Un-registering and Re-registering Windows Installer

Follow these steps:

1. On the "Start" menu, click "Run:.
2. In the "Open" box, type "msiexec /unreg", and then press ENTER.
3. On the "Start" menu, click "Run".
4. In the "Open" box, type "msiexec /regserver", and then press ENTER.

Hope this helps

Well i don't believe that is required because we run in compatibility mode only if that application is not designed for Windows 7 since the version of i-Tunes is designed for Windows 7 he should he able to install regularly

Hope this helps

Hi Capt' Jack Sparrow!

Interesting step by step guide you've got there, however;

1. I downloaded the 64 bit version of iTunes 9.0.2
2. When I run it, it shows iTunes running as a 32 bit app under my task manager

Any advise here?

My understanding of the 64bit "version" of iTunes is that it is a 32bit application that installs 64bit CD/DVD drivers...

Version 9.02 is compiled for Windows 7 X86 or X64 versions but will install to the X86 folder for backward compatability.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your explanation. Then I don't see the actual point of installing a 64 bit version of iTunes when it runs 32 bit. Odd indeed.

Thanks for your clarification!

i think you're right, but the installer warns and dictates to install the 64-bit version when you try to install the 32-bit ver. to 64-bit vista or 7.

The main executable (itunes.exe) is 32-bit, but some of the support libraries have to be 64-bits.

Yeah, that's really confusing. Okay, finally got it to work. Downloaded it on a different computer, installed that file, synced my nano, then copied that setup file (maybe mine was bad for some reason) and wa-la, everything works now. Anyone have experience with mediamonkey vs itunes?

Thanks for all of your ideas! Happy New Year.

Happy New Year.
Mediamonkey is much easier to run than iTunes. My old XP machine(1.63GHz, 512MB RAM) struggled to do anything else while the old iTunes 7.7 was running, yet it ran Mediamonkey like a champ. This may not matter to you with your newer, better computer, but it's worth mentioning. As far as how does MM work with an iPod, that I don't know....never had an iPod.;) Happy New Year!

Hi, I tried this method once and it worked. However, iTunes stopped working this morning and I've tried this method numerous times to no avail... iTunes just won't start even in Windows XP2 compatibility mode (it's how it was running before). I get an error message indicating that iTunes is incompatible...

Frustrating indeed - any suggestions?
